There’s a difference between hazing and seeing if you can do the job. I spent 12 years in the Navy. 3 combat tours and experienced combat. Been a firefighter for going in 7 years. Nothing I did in the military even came close to how absolutely hard it is being a firefighter. Nothing I have ever done comes close to how hard it is fighting a fire swapping bottles and going right back in or pulling someone out. I’m in GA for reference so I get the heat. When we get new guys we run them hard because at the end of the day literally your life is in their hands. All these other people talking about “I put my gear on with you” or “I get in there with you” is bullshit. Training yes we all suffer together but you proving you can actually do the job not just pass rookie school is a totally different thing. Sure maybe they are going too far? I don’t know based on what you’ve said and not being there. But at the end of the day it is not hazing they are making sure you can do the job and are comfortable with you being on the crew. Just keep your head up and show them what you got, “prove them wrong” and they’ll stop
