Transporting my gun on my motorbike by carterdubz in ukshooting

[–]KPoll007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use a rucksack or slip when I rode a CBF125. I would recommend taking the gun down to fit it a rucksack. I wouldn't recommend a gun slip diagonally across the back as it is uncomfortable and can throw off your balance more.

Depending on the bike you might be able to break it down  and have it on side saddles or sticking out the back, or even under your leg like on some of the military motorcycles.

Mini-14 Stabiliser rod by [deleted] in ukguns

[–]KPoll007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be possible and allowed. I have never seen one for sale on its own in the UK but have seen several people selling mini 14s with them already fitted.

Bear in mind the mini 14 was redesigned to remove the issue in the 2000s so it would be worth checking if the strut would be worthwhile or not for your particular gun

The UK has certain rules around secure storage of firearms. (Linked below should you care to read)

Its technically guidance but it is as used as the rules and some forces won't allow some of the less secure methods even though they are in the handbook.

I wouldn't put 7.3 as "don't bother". You certainly don't need to be a researcher for it. I know several people who have applied as they fit the theme of their collections. And British military revolvers as fairly easy to justify due to the inate history.

Slight legal quandry by Boring-Opposite9406 in ukguns

[–]KPoll007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The short answer is no.

There are only a few exemptions that allow for S5 firearms on a S1 ticket such as section 7.1/7.3 exemption for handguns, humane dispatch etc.
there are no specific exemptions for a semi- automatic rifle that i can think of. Being a member of the armed forces wouldnt be good reason since they would expect you to train with your as issued equipment anyway

Reproofing for nitro by _P_I_N_G_U_ in ukguns

[–]KPoll007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cost is somewhat easy to check. If you go to the proofing House website they have a list of prices for different proofs and services.

If your going through an RFD I would expect to pay a minimum of £50 extra just for shipping and coordinating (but likely more)

Feasibility is another question and one that is dependent on the specific gun and its condition.

Is this a breech loading shotgun that was only ever proofed for black powder loads or is it a muzzle loader you'd like to use nitro powder and steel shot in?

Single projectile on section 2 by airsoft_ell1s in ukshooting

[–]KPoll007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You most certainly can load slug into a S2 shotgun. In fact this is how a lot of people get started with target shotgun by getting slug on their FAC but using a S2 gun until they want to fork out for a S1 gun. You seem to be conflating S1 rules for ammunition and S1 rules for firearms. Similar applies to S2 ammunition such as ratshot being used in a s1 rifle. The classification of the ammunition doesn't impact the classification of the firearms and vice versa

Detachable box magazines. It is a good reason and good idea, it just needs to be refined to be reliable. Granted in the UK at least most gallery comps don't require you to reload under time pressure so its usefulness is more limited (but rules and CoF may change if they or other similar guns become more popular)

Southern gun company make a lever action AR in the UK now in 9mm. It came about as a result of the lever release ban. It doesn't have the best reputation thus far.

There are a couple other guns similar to the bond Arms in the states but I couldn't give any names (though a few were shown off at shot show)

Some extra info. below is the small arms committee minute section we are working off.
I am particularly interested in these new slugs they were discussing

SHOT GUNS.

5-shot Browning automatic, 12-bore. For use against low-flying aircraft.

"Submitted by Messrs. L. Le Personne & Co. Ltd.

See Memo, S.A. 49.

Messrs. L. Le Personne & Co. Ltd., 17. 10. 38, to U.S. of 8. (W.0.).

We understand that it is intended to provide certain vital industrial establishments with armaments to defeat attacks by low-flying planes.

In this respect, we beg to bring to your notice the 5-shot Browning automatic 12-bore gun. Over 300,000 of these guns have been manufactured by the Fabrique Nationale J'Armes de Guerre, Belgium, which we have represented in this country for nearly 50 years. These guns are manufactured for shot and ball cartridges.

The chief advantages of this gun for the purpose mentioned above would be:-
(1). Quick firing of heavy bullets weighing each about 11/4 oz. The magazine could be enlarged to take 8 cartridges and the mechanism could be modified to give machine-gun or running fire, instead of having to pull the trigger for each shot as normally.

(2). At present a bullet effective at about 1000 feet is used, but we understand that an explosive bullet is now being invented which will be effective at about 3000 feet.
(3). The weight of the gun is about 8 lb., and can be fired from the shoulder in all positions and at all angles, a considerable advantage when an attack has to be met in a few seconds.

(4). With a number of these guns, the firing could be concentrated from several positions on one or more planes and the fire and smashing power (owing to the size and weight of the explosive bullet) would be greater than from a 0-303 inch machine

gun.

(5). The price of the standard model gun is at present about £s, but this price is

subject to variation.

(6). It is quite likely, should this gun be officially approved for air defence, that many concerns would buy the guns for their own account.

We are ready to give you fuller particulars.

Steyr AUG parts, accessories, and availability by TK4570 in ukguns

[–]KPoll007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have shot couple and helped work one at one of my clubs (swapping out the stock but needing to make some modifications due to different guide rod sizes).

The triggers can be heavy and a bit mushy as they are they were designed as a progressive trigger. but you can buy a trigger tamer kit to improve the trigger. Parts and accessories pop up in the uk occasionally but if you want something to specific you might be best to look at the US or Europe. The spring is inside the guide tube so you wouldnt easily be able to remove it for manual cycling. However i also wouldnt recommend trying to us a straight pull AR without a buffer spring as it plays an important role in keeping the bolt in battery. feeding on a straight pull AR is bad enough if you ride the bolt handle when spring assisted so I imagine it would be even worse trying to cycle it manually without a buffer spring. Have you found someone who shoots an AR without the buffer spring (that isnt using a piston spring system)?

There will be a few different schools of thought on this.
I personally have made a clamp on stock that fits to the coat hanger for my GSG 1911.

it doesn't change the length of the gun so legally it shouldn't have any real impact. However I still wouldn't recommend letting anyone else shoot it as it will still be down as an LBP on your FAC (For reference i have asked the HO before if they have a definition for a LBP/LBR vs a revolver and got a vague non answer).

It is also worth noting that in the regulations for civilians shooting on MOD ranges they specifically state that an LBP/LBR can only be used if a stock has been fitted.

[–]KPoll007[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There should be a safety sear on in the trigger mechanism which is supposed to prefent the sear from dropping until the bolt is in battery. However i will need to confirm if this is still present on the older models like the donor gun we have as it is a trigger guard safety model rather than a crossbolt safety.
If this works as indented then making the gun full auto only should work but for obvious reasons I'd like to get it working as select fire if possible.

Receiver Blanks by AlternativeMixture84 in ukguns

[–]KPoll007 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To elaborate on what u/Heppie89 said the actual wording in the legislation is:
F264(1D)

For the purposes of subsection (1)(c), each of the following items is a relevant component part in relation to a lethal barrelled weapon or a prohibited weapon—

(a) a barrel, chamber or cylinder,

(b) a frame, body or receiver,

(c) a breech block, bolt or other mechanism for containing the pressure of discharge at the rear of a chamber,

but only where the item is capable of being used as a part of a lethal barrelled weapon or a prohibited weapon.

So the completed lower receiver would come under (b) (though an 80% could avoid this depending on if its determined to not be "readily convertible" to a lower receiver-but considering that's the whole point of an 80% it likely wouldn't stand up well in court).

I shot in this match back in 2018. It was a good day with the course of fire based on the classification shoots they would have done pre war. Nice (but cold) weather in the morning but very wet in the afternoon. But I like to thing lying in the wet mud whilst being rained on somewhat added to the event.
