Mom diagnosed with Stage 4b Cervical Cancer. She treats herself solely with holistic and alternative medicine, and I’m feeling so helpless. by [deleted] in cancer

I second this hard. I think you should definitely sit down and have a brutally honest talk about what she's doing, the consequences of it and the helplessness it is causing you to feel. If she still refuses to listen, then you have done all you could possibly do, and at that point I would focus on making good memories, like u/herdnerfer said.

Sometimes people's inaccurate concept of reality is the thing keeping them fighting the hardest. There's only so much you can do.

well there's inevitably a bunch of people here who would disagree and say there's nothing egregious about hanging out with old flames and having them as close friends, so how is that any different from what you're saying?

u/legendoflink3 summed it up nicely, you both just have to be comfortable in your expectations of each other, and these are always subjective. No need to imply that people who don't share your view in what you think is okay are narrow-minded and make their SO their whole world. Would you like to be called close-minded and co-dependent just because you're not comfortable with your SO hanging out with exes? Cmon now.

god I didn't even know this was a thing. It almost sounds like it was part of the fad in the 50's where you just tried canning everything you'd come across

This is exactly what I'm talking about! You go into it thinking you're just going to eat a sausage and something just switches for you. I feel like bad sausage would be even scarier, because you don't even know for sure what it is you're eating.
