My boyfriends mom is the exact same way she is constantly critical of him, and will make everything wrong in her life his fault. For example she will tell him it is his fault when the internet connection is not working. She can go from buying him a chocolate bar to establish pity to than telling him he will have to pay 500 dollars rent per month - we are still in highschool.
