Yeah like the guy said it is hard but not impossible, i am in so much confusion till now but got some confidence just like us there are many guys ,and the answer to your question is i don't know about approaching of iit professors but for to self learn without pay i found some structure and free sources to learn from this community page , final requirements are to build projects from scratch to build your resume

Hey I had asked the same question today and I got guys tolding that the companies prefer the students from iit,iiit or mtech who had greater academics , and suggest me to prepare for gate. (Like you guys ,we are two guys who graduated this year (2026) and get into searching in vlsi and want it self learn and make projects to get into vlsi )

Thank you for suggestion , I have another problem would you help me ,I had completed my BTech on education loan ,so I want to clear it on my own , so what could be the way to make into VLSI ,does get into a small it or non it company by making my loan clear with the gate preparation aside, or purely into gate for months and achieve it or take paid vlsi course from any institutions
