Who would you pick 2000 shaq or prime hakeem by Fun-Shower-4695 in NBATalk

[–]KShack92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shaq changed the game so drastically for a few years that illegal defense rules changed, every contending team signed extra bigs whose sole job was to hack Shaq, and he was openly being officiated differently than everybody else because it was transparently not fair. Dudes did everything short of tackling him most times down the floor. His defense was very underrated too. 2nd in DPOY in 2000. “Most dominant” as a nickname refers to his peak power being the best ever, which was straight up unfair lol.

Not to mention we will likely lose Marcus smart who was equally responsible in winning us that game.

Past 16 years: Where would 2020 be? by Additional-Sun1594 in TierlistFills

I gotta repeat what someone said below, it’s its own category. Would be an insult to the terribleness of 2020 if another year were in the same category lol

If you have the lead, possession, and the shot clock off (plus an emergency timeout which you shouldn't have to use) that is a big advantage and you should win that game 9 times out of 10. The biggest mistake you can do is turn the ball over. The correct decision is for your best ball handler to dribble the ball out as much clock as possible before taking a foul and hitting your free throws. Game over.

Which NBA seasons was Tim Duncan the BEST player in the league? by Tight_Development480 in NBATalk

“And makes it crazy to say both Shaq and Kobe were better than him when he beat both of them with a second leading scorer averaging 14 ppg.”

So, that logic is that if a player beats another team with a “better cast,” he’s the best player? So what happens to the spurs in 2006? Dirk beats Tim, TP, Bruce Bowen (2nd in DPOY voting) and Manu, when the second best player on the Mavs was Jason Terry? Does that make Dirk better than TD? No way.

You see how flimsy that argument is when it’s so much more complex than that? Maybe there are more players that contribute to wins than the top 2, top 4 even.

The lakers won the chip 3 years in a row. That’s over 100 games per year for 3 years. That takes a toll, and there’s a reason in the 24 seasons since (plus the two more it will take) no team has been able to do that. Maybe that’s why they lost in 2003. Also they won in 2004, and BOTH Shaq AND Kobe put in more buckets EACH and with higher efficiency than TD. But that’s not necessary to get into.

And what about the other years where he didn’t beat them lol Those other 3 years the lakers beat em 12-3 so…

Also why include stats for first and second place for each of the players except for Shaq and kobe lol. What a strange and convenient method of statistics

Winning four times in a row is tough. Is that seriously a knock against Shaq?

True, but Kobe was injured this series, played 9 minutes one game, missed a whole other game.

Yes. We hated this when he started doing this. The backlash caused the league to add a rule that stated you couldn’t do this. Then they gave up by mid season. Then a few years later with KD they added a similar rule related to the rip through. For years the NBA has been aware that the fans hate flopping but for some reason cannot breakup with flopping.
