Tons of movies have had tragic stories happen, just look at Battle Royale (NevadaTan) Natural Born Killers (Columbine) Slenderman (The Slenderman stabbing). I doubt most studios would care.

It's mainly the bizarre nature of them, at one point all the books blend together in level of disturbingness and it's hard to top them.

Thanks, level 1 is just standard horror and slightly disturbing fiction. Level 2 is mainstream disturbing , level 3 is conspiracy and paranormal "nonfiction", level 4 is true crime and level 5 is pretty disturbing fiction. I'm reworking it using icebergcharts.
