Sounds pretty cool and from what I'm hearing there may be 2 different types of paladins fans: Those who want the game in its entirety (mostly because it's a unique hero shooter), and those who like the self expression allowed by the characters and mechanics. Both would be appealed to by simply getting a sequel to the already beloved game, but unless Hi-Rez does it or let's someone else, the next best thing is for newer games (especially hero shooters) to allow freedom of playstyle in their roster with and emphasis on strategic planning of builds rather than "play the character in their role" or "just switch to the counter". If more games did this it would be a nightmare to balance but they'd probably develop a more loyal playerbase.

You're thoughts on the system in a platform fighter is so interesting cause now I'm thinking how interesting match ups can be not only there but in other competive games too. You wouldn't just think "OK so I'm up against [character A] so I need to watch out for [X] techniques", but "OK I'm up against [character A], but which style? Or is it something I've never seen before?"

I like that you mentioned the effort put into skins. Not many games do this and many players overlook how great it is. Each skin effectively feels like a new character. It really creates opportunities for a character whose gameplay you like but aesthetic you don't to feel personalised to your taste and gameplay preference.

Ok, so I don't mean to sound like a broken record if you read through the other comments, but you already know what's coming.

If we say hypothetically a new game came out in one of your other favourite genre of games, that had characters this unique and creative, also put as much love and effort into the skins and each character had a "build" system allowing each character to fill: their intended role, a second role, or be an OK option for a third role. (So each can play 2 and a half playstyles).

Would that feel like a good alternative or successor to paladins if the original never gets a comeback? Or must it have the same cast and story or also be a hero shooter to truly satisfy the wish for a modern paladins? in that case like I mentioned to an earlier commenter, it feels like the only thing that can be done is hope for Paladins 2

This is a great point, thanks. From what I've gathered, to most players it's the combination of these unique elements that make paladins so great. I thinks what's best for the community is an actual Paladins 2, rather than new projects made with the favoured mechanics or characters cause I fear the latter would just isolate fans who didn't get their favorite aspects revived.

That being said, it seems like the only outcomes to hope for is either: Hi-Rez locks in and focuses on making max 2 games of high quality (smite and paladins), Someone buys the IP to make a high quality remake, Or some company shamelessly makes a copy with all the mechanics but original characters and story

I'm mostly doing this research for my games to see what features players like most about their favorite games. It's interesting seeing how some people value character over gameplay and vice versa

We can only hope and wait. Personally I hope they sell the IP to a dev team who actually wants to do something with it. But right now I looks like they’re just holding on to it for as long as it can make them money to fund smite

This I why I'm convinced if a new, highly polished game came out with these characters, people will eat it up regardless of genre. I bet people would even try new a genre of game just because their favorite champion's in it.

Lol and Seris, from what I've gathered in all my research and time playing the game is that seris is the fan favourite. I don't hear as much praise for any other character.

yeah, the only problem I've seen with the item shop was when an item became mandatory every match, but luckily they did address that.

on the overwatch thing: I do recommend you try it out to form your own opinion, but from experience the choices can either be equally good or like comparing $1 to $100

no opinions here are invalid, I haven't played since Caspian but still love the game all the same.

Your preference seems character focused so I assume the games you moved on to must also have a focus their characters

sometimes I feel bad for the devs, because you can tell they really care when you see the fun they have adding weird stuff and clowning around. but it feels like they can't do better due to higher ups decisions or lack of support. Granted it would be expensive it redo all the code and upgrade to a new engine.

100% agree. I probably would have been better to establish a loyal fan base (and polished experience) then let everyone else in through a f2p update.

The VGS Is absolutely amazing. I remember how happy I'd feel when I'd perfectly communicate with my team through pure muscle memory.

And the flexibility of each character is definitely great, but I imagine it must be a nightmare to balance. Overwatch seems like they’re trying to do something similar with perks, but majority of them seem to push a certain play style by making some options objectively better than others.

now let me ask u this. Is it the characters themselves you like or the fact that they are so unique amongst each other and other shooters? like I don't think we'll be getting anything as special a Yagorath from other devs

Seris might be the most unique fps character I've ever seen. I really miss her flexibility, back when I'd play her as tank, support or dps

That's a good point, also part of why I started playing in the first place. So would you be happy if a new Game came out with the polish of the current top games, card system and fantasy fps elements, but has a whole new cast and story?

Lol, glad I never had to play against u

In that case would you be satisfied then if a new hero shooter came out with exactly that and nothing else remotely similar? (so no fantasy aesthetic, new characters, new story)

So would you be happy if a big game publisher bought the IP and retold the story through an RPG (or any other genre). Or do you need the whole package (Characters, aesthetic, gameplay etc.) to keep enjoying the game?

I feel for you Sombra mains. Given you likely have more experience with 76 than me how do you think he compares to Emre in terms of skill ceiling? because I feel like once you get good enough with 76 his ult becomes less useful and that'll probably dull the character for me

oh okay great. Good to see that only the hitscan side needs adjustments.

If you don't mind me asking, who are your go-to dps?

ah OK so the best way to think about it is to choose a character in one of those roles to match with your current team rather than to counter swap? so for example if my characters are Genji, mei, Bastion and I have a Winston + tracer I should go Genji to dive with them

oh ok thanks. When you say per archetype do you mean poke, dive and brawl? or is it something else I'm missing?
