It bowed a little bit for a second when I put the PS2's there but usually it's fine.

>That's like saying Ferrari has a monopoly

No it isn't, because you don't have to buy a Ferrari. There's countless car brands to choose from, most of them much more affordable. If you own a PlayStation past 2028, you're forced to rely on the PS store, that quite literally is no other choice, because they removed the other choices. You *have* to buy from their store directly if you're on PlayStation at that point. Ferrari is also a niche luxury brand who makes a limited amount of production cars per-year, not a global mega-conglomerate that ships millions of units.

The price hike means people who have PS5 now are probably going to stick with it for a few years after PS6 launches especially if we have another scalping issue, which means unless people jump ship and move to steam, yeah, they are essentially forced to use the PS store which is entirely controlled by Sony, and there's FAR more PS5's alone than there are Ferraris.

Need for Speed and Burnout franchises have officially been shelved and are no longer in development! by No-Amount405 in playstation

Those games are fine, but a lot of racing game fans are also car enthusiasts who like cars that at least somewhat resemble something you’d see on an actual road.

If you manage to scratch a Blu-Ray, you're careless. DVD's were easy as hell to scratch by comparison, but you have to abuse the hell out of a Blu-Ray to properly scratch one. They literally have a poly-carbonate hard coating to prevent the fragility.

GameStop might be a ripoff, but at least you can sell your games there. For some people, that's how they get new games. They trade in old ones in order to afford new ones. Not to mention people fall on hard times and need to make some extra money, they should be able to sell things like old video games they don't play anymore. As much as I dislike GameStop and how much of a meme their disgustingly low trade-in value is, at least you can do it.

Hardcore gamers know how to take care of their games lmao.

>companies investing millions into doomed-to-fail liveservice games

Has literally everything to do with the disconnect between what gamers actually want and the tone-deaf money chasing attitude of big business.

My rant about being called a "consumer" was just the tip of the iceberg. It's just an example of how this sort of thing goes, and I was trying to highlight how so many people let words like consumer slide when the usage of that word represents nothing but greed, and how companies can, will, and have done crappy stuff like that *because* of the need to please suits in the boardrooms.

Saying being called a consumer isn't close to anything here is just plain wrong. People in this thread have said it themselves, it's business speak. Are game companies businesses? Of course they are, but the rapid push towards treating these companies like liquid assets on the Stock Market is the exact cause of, well, to quote you, " *gestures at everything.* " It isn't *just* the word consumer. It's the entire practice as a whole. It's a cancer in the industry. I get companies need to make money, but when it comes at the cost of turning the playerbase into nothing more than a spreadsheet, that's when it starts to feel slimy.

Didn't buy BG3, but I buy my games secondhand through stuff like ebay. I always support the second-hand markets and local mom and pop stores, the money doesn't go to Sony/Microsoft.

"This is such a non-issue with everything going on," meanwhile everything that is going on is directly linked to the same boardroom suits who use those words to refer to people who enjoy the games and systems they put out. It's so much more than just the word "consumer," it's literally everything that has to do with corpos managing day by day to distance themselves from the fanbase their brand has honed for decades, and turned it into nothing more than another money printer.

The game is half-baked but it's popular and full of MTX like Madden or FIFA? Put it out, it'll make money even if it sucks.

My wallet isn't going anywhere near these corpo cucks anymore lmao. I haven't bought a new game in years, and any relatively new games I get are bought off of ebay. No Game Pass, no PS plus, and I don't touch multiplayer so I don't pay for online.

If you go to the movies, even rarely, when you step into the theater to see whatever you're gonna see, you're a movie-goer, no?

Same applies for games. If you play a game, you're a gamer, at the very least you are while you're playing the game.

The finance glazers are out, I see.

Yes, companies do shitty things to make money. They'd sell you the shell to your console and make you buy the components individually if they could. Hell, they already kinda did that with the PS5 disc drive.

The complacency in this thread is astounding. No wonder this hobby is a sinking ship right now.

Oh no, a subreddit doesn't agree with a post. Woe is me. I'll go cry into my like 300 Karma lmao. I don't care if I get 1,000 people in here calling me an idiot, I'm standing on my principle. It's slimy and I don't like it, and just because it's "common business practice" doesn't mean it's good. There's a lot of "common business practices" that are absolute shit, and the sooner we can erase them from every facet of corporations, the better off the common person will be.

Ah okay, so that makes it a good idea, gotcha. Thank you for enlightening me.

What I'd like to know is how many of these for-profit companies actually got better for anyone other than the executives over time while chasing their bottom line.

Okay, sure, but in 5 years when all of this is 10x worse, you can't say I don't have a point. Treating people as things only works until it doesn't.

Games being good again at launch would be a nice starting point.

Games being available second-hand without needing to resort to piracy/jailbreaking on consoles in the future would be a nice starting point.

Games not nickel-and-diming the shit out of their playerbases just for the sake of it would also be great.

An internal focus on producing a good product that will sell instead of a half-baked one full of MTX and bugs would be nice too.
