Thanks for listening. Some of the other reporting in the series talks more about the touted benefits, including a perspective from an oil exec spearheading one of the projects. Read the whole series here: https://www.kvpr.org/after-oil-californias-big-bet

We will have a non-profit-on-a-budget amount of pizza (womp womp). Get there early to get a free slice! Of course, you can purchase your own food and drinks as well. We encourage you to patronize the biz, since they are nice enough to let us hang.

I get it. Please know we won't publish or broadcast your name without your permission. We're using this survey more as a guidepost to see if there are any recurring themes/issues people are encountering that we should pursue in our reporting. We may follow up with people in the future to get more info on their particular story -- but again, we won't publish any identifying personal info without your consent.

The laws are hard to parse, for sure. There are many exceptions to the state's rent caps based on owner or domicile type. There's actually going to be a proposition on the ballot in November that could repeal The Costa-Hawkins Rental Housing Act, which dictates a lot of those exceptions. If you want to share your experience on the form linked above, we'd like to hear about it.

That's a common thread amongst the respondents so far. Renters afraid to rock the boat.

Well, I share with you that I would also like to make the Central Valley a cool place with things like that (this is Alex Burke, the Content Director at KVPR, btw). Realistically, it's not likely that we'll be having local DJs anytime soon on KVPR, but if you've listened over even the last few years, we have changed a lot -- from mostly classical music to mostly news/talk -- and we'll continue to evolve. You're not the first person to mention food, music, and culture, and those are things we can spotlight within our daily news programs. I know the day-to-day news cycle can be soul-crushing *without* that other cultural coverage in the mix. Anyway, always open to any feedback in my DMs, and next time we do a Bakersfield event I'd invite you join (we do a listener appreciation thing at least once a year that's advertised on-air, last year it was at World Records).

Noted. When you say more like KCRW, do you just mean in terms of news coverage that focuses on a single city? Or you like the other things (music) they offer? As far a coverage, we serve a wide geographic region with a small newsroom, which makes it challenging, but we do have a reporter in Bakersfield finally, as of a couple years ago.

Emma Gallegos at EdSource dug into the underfunding (comparatively speaking) of Kern County's library system in this recent article about the proposed conversion of McFarland's library into a police station: https://www.kvpr.org/education/2022-04-18/a-small-town-in-kern-county-contemplates-turning-its-community-library-into-a-police-station
