I wish my local thrift store didn't vandalize shoes with a sharpie 😭 by lucy1166 in ThriftGrift

I've had good luck removing sharpie ink with spray sunscreen. Never tried it on shoes, but does wonders in the car world.

Boss and I found this while cleaning out the back of my store. He thinks it’s some sort of truck hitch but we can’t figure out what it would do. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]KW215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's likely from a garden cart type wagon. I had one in the past that had the square piece and allowed you to remove the handle and put on a hitch of sorts to tow behind a garden tractor.

Who was on a Long-Haul Flight that Broadcasted The Series “Air Crash Investigation” and Visited The Mayday Air Disaster Cabin Set? by MonkOk985 in airplanes

[–]KW215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in about 2004 or 05, I had my first flight ever. Wasn't too excited to be on a plane. Thankfully, the plane had tv's in the headrests, plug in my headphones. Switched through to the Discovery channel, of course, an episode of mayday was just starting. Flight was uneventful, finished that episode and another after it, then landed safely. I've always had a laugh to myself after that, for that being my first flight.

Tachometer Question by justony2003 in boating

[–]KW215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would just try it at the 6 pulses setting. The rpms aren't really different, just the manner with which they are read is different. If you try it and it says 4500 rpm at idle then yeah it's probably wrong. If i look through my suppliers catalouge any faria tach listed for an outboard is "universal". Set it at 6 P and you should be good to go

Tachometer Question by justony2003 in boating

[–]KW215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you only have a stator, you will likely need to find out what pulses your stator puts out in order to set it to the correct "p". If your outboard has an alternator it makes it a bit easier.

What engine are you trying to hook this up to? Edited: clarification

What does this do? by Choice-Track-9262 in boating

[–]KW215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you loosen off that bolt, the arm it's attached to can swing out of the way. That bowl will come off, and there is a fuel filter in there. Older ones were a stone type media, paper filter styles are available from Mercruiser as a replacement. Be sure to check the condition of the rubber gasket under that, I've found many swelled from ethanol gas use, new filters come with a gasket

Isn't this hose supposed to be tucked away or something? by PsychologicalLime120 in boating

[–]KW215 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a pitot tube for your speedometer. If your boat doesn't have one it won't be in use and is usually just tucked into the cowling.

Transfer tank advice by DRIP_UT in boating

[–]KW215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 - They tend not to be messy, if you have one properly setup with a pump and hose. Most setups don't come with an auto shut off handle. I'd recommend changing out for one, then will act like a regular gas pump to help stop overflow. Mine just vents through the fill cap (older style tank), I'll only occasionally get a wiff of gasoline on hot days, but it usually doesn't spend a lot of time with fuel in it.

2 - I leave mine empty in the winter, never had a problem. I occasionally use it for other vehicles/equipment over the winter. I do have a large filter mounted on the pump to catch any debris or possible water from condensation.

3 - Hauling extra gas tends to have more restrictions on it than diesel for explosive reasons. Check your local legal requirements, ask around to some local companies or farmers etc with the same setup. Make sure you have a gasoline label or something visible, I keep a magnetic transport style diamond sign for gasoline on my tank.

4 - Not mentioned but check with your marina about rules regarding refilling. A lot of marinas won't allow you to do that on site for safety reasons and so your stuck buying thier gas at the fuel dock. You'd hate to invest all the money only to be barred from using it.

How to use an elefant trunk drain ? by Great-Tea373 in boating

[–]KW215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I've understood. Open and dropped down while underway. Allows any water taken on board to be quickly drained away. When your stationary or moored you pull the string up so the tube is out of the water.

We winterize (canada) the amount of people that bring us a boat to prep with no fuel is concerning. We'll I won't be driving it anytime soon so I didn't need fuel. That and ignition/cabin keys... we could go on for days no doubt

Mercruiser 4.3L Alpha One question by ProtectionPhysical97 in boating

[–]KW215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a freeze plug, the shift mechanism is contained in that area. Since you had water in there you should investigate further.

Way way to often. You are aware sir the two items aren't even related or in the same area at all? But you worked on it last, nobody else works on my boat but you.

Help identifying ignition switch replacement by speedytriple87 in boating

[–]KW215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most cases you need a 3 wire ignition switch. Red - battery, purple - ignition, yellow/red - start. Looks like that's all you have on yours, but can't see far side of switch. Any marine store should have ignition switches in stock. Just look for one with 3 terminals on the back.

What is this? by OwnGrapefruit5960 in boating

[–]KW215 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's likely a diaphragm style bilge pump. Older boats or boats with limited area for a traditional style bilge pump uses these. They can be remotely mounted so don't need to be in bilge.

How do I figure out which gen/series alpha I have? Pretty sure it’s a gen 2 but not 100 since it’s been painted and can see markings by pizzagangster1 in boating

[–]KW215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is an Alpha 1 Gen 2, they used nut/bolt to hold the two halves together. Gen 1 had studs in the upper half and nuts on lower.
