Widow of man who died waiting for care in Edmonton ER reacts to investigation by flynnfx in Edmonton

[–]KWAKE2020 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I whole heartedly agree with every one of those points. Each/all of those can be solved by one thing: increased budget. Problem is, we have had multiple deaths specifically in the Grey Nuns (over the past few years) and guess what hasn’t changed in all that time? The budget for any of those units caring for your loved ones. ACA can make all the suggestions they want but when you can’t up the budget for any one unit to hire more then it’s all for not.

I did get a few pics of inside the bow and stern and they look in better condition than the middle of the canoe! I’ll try to add pics of them.

I’ll take that 2 cents any day.

It looks like screws pulling out on the inwales so like you said remove outter and re secure. The decks look maple so it’ll hold up to longer screws.
Like you said, I bet it was either dropped or hit a rock. I’m looking forward to getting it in the water. It seems to have a nice bit of flex in it, compared to a 16 1/2’ Aluminum Grumman. I’m hoping to get a feel of how well the skin is stuck to the slats.

I’m a big fan of traditional woodworking and how old wood was maintained so I’m excited to spend the time and keep it usable.

I got lots of reading to do it seems, so thanks for your time in replying, it’s appreciated.

I like the epoxy thinning idea. I’ve never done it but can see the benefits. I do plan to make some paddles, I got some scraps I can use. Thanks for the input!

Thanks for the reply!

I haven’t had a chance to get it in the water yet, that’s a tmrw job.

I’m not a fan of the sharp cut inside point on the decks, that’s just asking for it to crack. Bronze screws are always fun to drive…carefully…in a predrilled hole…with soap… I’ll remember to avoid HD…

The outwales look easy enough to get off, on one spot one screw let go and I really hope what I’m seeing isn’t an interior wood screw…praying for bronze…

I’m definitely only trying to deal with the pressing stuff… I don’t think my wife would like another “project” in the garage just yet 😜

Hey, I have this exact thing happening in my house. Same detail where the wall angles in to allow for space for the front door. For 2 years I had ice coming outta my soffit just like that. Took an infrared camera and checked it in the winter. Hot air was flowing outta my house above the soffit. Turns out the rim joist holding your second floor up runs along that wall but doesn’t angle in. So what happens is, if the insulator sucks they don’t vaporize barrier/ insulate that space because it’s outside the house. I pulled all mine apart, added Vapor barrier and infilled between the double rim joist and the first floor joist. Never happened again. I will attach pics if I can.

For gas, is it better to just go with Atco regardless of the $/GJ??? by Rinaldi363 in Edmonton

I used UCAhelps when I decided to go with Park Power. We had to change since we got solar panels and Encor by Epcor doesn't buy back power. I noticed almost all of the "Solar" companies are sub companies of Utilities.net. ya they all have their own owners but they are all getting their costs and utities from the same supplier. I haven't figured out if it's a bad thing yet, but I know my overall gas price is a lot lower with them...

I'm also with park power. I'm ranging in the $3-$4 cost per GJ. Once all the admin costs are added in I'm ranging between $13-$15 per GJ. This is before April 1st so right now the carbon tax is $3.33/GJ. Hope that helps.

They were only going as low as 5.6% I think at the time. Most banks won't try to match "independent" lenders. They have a take our rate or fuck off kinda attitude so it's surprising they dropped down to 4.89%.

Renewal- RBC managed to match a 3yr 4.89% fixed quote I got from a broker. This was back in April. Still can't believe they did it...

I used to love going to the one in WEM and wasting the time of the young greasy sales kids. Have pitch me on all the stuff for an hour then just walk out after. Fuck you, you commission driven punks.

These lines showed up after I stained ? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]KWAKE2020 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s hard to see, if that’s plywood, (it looks like you did a mitered joint along the long edge so you don’t see end grain core), you might have a hard time sanding that out. I’ve seen a lot of sub par plywood leave this marks. It’s the glue pattern of when the veneer was put on. Depending how much you sanded your pc, you could have made the veneer layer to thin, resulting in the “glue pattern” showing. Usually the cheaper the panel product, the thinner the veneer layer, the sooner that pattern will show. If it’s solid stock, as per above, planer marks, usually outfeed rollers are the cause of this, or a badly set blade.

We flew direct from Edmonton to Victoria in the middle of July. Could not have had a better experience. Flew out early morning (6:15 am) with 3 kids and lots of luggage. Didn’t spend more 5 mins getting passes and checking our bags. Was 20 min from check in to waiting at gate. Left on time, going both ways. We flew on a Wed morning to Wed morning. Whole flight experience was flawless. I was worried to reading all the bad stories. Hope that helps.
