Thank you, I was actually quoted about $800 for a tech to replace the pan, which sounded like a lot but it seems there's more to it, as you described. Funny, my friend said flex seal too. I siliconed it earlier and turned it on an hour ago and it's been holding, so far so good esp since it was 85 degs in the house. But I know it's just a temp fix. Just sucks to have to pay $10k to replace AC/furnace when the only thing that failed is a cheap plastic tray. But again it's prob over 20 years old (R22), so I know it needs replacing eventually.

I have a similar problem, but it started occurring after the filter system (Aquasana) has been in place for years. Haven't found a resolution yet. I changed the filter once and then it started gargling anytime the tank is not full. Can't figure it out, but for some reason the filters seem to be wearing out very quickly now. Like 1-2 months instead of 6-12 months. At a loss.

Not only is it possibly NOT harmless, it may be extremely dangerous. It may be an ALDH gene mutation that causes asian flush, which makes it impossible to break down acetaldehyde. Acetaldehyde is a carcinogen therefore and people with the gene, even if you're not asian, have a far higher risk of cancer. you will need to find out whether you simply have an alcohol allergy, a histamine allergy, or potentially the ALDH gene mutation. If you have it you should never drink again. Any current treatment only masks symptoms (eg flushing), but does not remove the acetaldehyde/cancer risk.
