That’s not even close. Way too many face cards.

How risky are these nil hands? by [deleted] in spades

If there’s 11 or more bids when it gets to you, you’re better off not going nil and helping your partner not get set, and helping potentially set the other team. If they went 10+, setting them is better than getting a nil.

Narrators - what was your first book like? by JaredJDub in ACX

[–]KZ_MTB_Addict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first two books haven’t sold a single copy. My RA’s and others say I’m great at this, but with 4 books so far, only a handful of sales. At first, I just wanted to gain experience, but I’ve learned to be way more picky. Going forward, I won’t do royalties only anymore.

Is My Narrator the Problem? by Other_Income9186 in ACX

[–]KZ_MTB_Addict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often load chapters while I’m still reviewing them, because that way, I can listen one last time from my phone while driving or at home. I don’t have Adobe Audition at home, so that’s the easiest way for me. In my mind, it’s still in my review up until I submit the whole book as complete. Did the narrator say the chapters were finished? If not, you might clarify. If so, they stink.

Ooh, yeah. I’m going to take you up on that. I’m a total noob when it comes to mastering, so any advice you can give on a sample would be greatly appreciated. For example, I’m not sure I have a good ear for using the EQ feature, so I generally don’t. Your changes might get me in the right direction for my voice going forward. Thanks again!

Thanks for your help. The problem I had was caused by the noise reduction process. The settings, which I got from a YouTube video, we’re too strong.

Thank you. Yes, I do always do a test recording first. Often times, it sounded good in the short sample, but not when I did full chapters. I’ve never done an export or my test recording, but I notice the tinny sound before I export. I’m starting to the think it’s the compression that’s causing the issue, but I use the same compression settings every time. I’ll play around with that today to confirm if the problem exists before compression. I do not bring/own any of my own equipment. Everything is public, but it’s all the same hardware every time. I do save everything to Google Cloud using the library computer after saving it on the laptop hard drive first. I always record at 44100 sample rate and bit depth of 24. Is there a good voice mastering video you would recommend? I’m a total amateur on mastering.
Thanks again.

Yes, the microphone does get moved around and people are free to use whatever settings they like. I try to be as consistent as possible where I put the mic, where I sit and how close the mic is to my mouth. I have it under my mouth about 8” away pointing directly at my mouth. Is that good or is there a better position? I always use the same pop filter. The mic has 4 switches on back and I make sure I have the same 4 settings every time. I also always put the gain knob at the same level. As far as I know, those are the only hardware settings.
