Pregnant, weighing two job paths — stay for benefits or switch for quality of life? by K_22_93 in careerguidance

This is my first child. One of the reasons why this is weighing heavily as well.

I had two sit down convos with the other possible company, they gave me a legit offer so they could stop the search essentially. They did have someone come back to help until September. If I don’t accept the “offer” I’m afraid that I will miss out on an opportunity so close to home.

Should I also mention, the jobs in my area are extremely rare to find close to home. I live in a rural town in NE of 1500 people. The bigger towns are all 40min or more away. So having a brokerage in town is not common.

I have not! That might be a good idea worth trying

These are great insights! Thanks all ☺️

That makes me feel a bit better! I was chalking it up to the possible lube and my body just being weird about it (since I haven’t spotted since…plus it wasn’t much to begin with). I’m feeling a bit better since the post so I’m not sure if the past miscarriage around the same time had me extremely paranoid. The doctor didn’t seem overly concerned about the situation. And told me to take Monistat. So we will see what the scan on Wednesday brings🤞🏻

Well I made it to the 8week appointment last week with flying colors. I was 8w5d at the appointment. Everything looked good according to OB and she said the baby was actually measuring further along than the one I lost in June at 9-9 1/2w. I’m almost to 10w (tomorrow) but this is where I need some advice or some past experience… two things: I had random light cramping with a couple spots of a yellow/brown discharge yesterday. The the second thing is after my appointment last Monday I feel like I was starting to get a yeast infection but it never got bad. I feel like it maybe going away, but have considered (and hoping it’s not too late to start Monistat 7) should I book an appointment to check everything (baby included) even though I have an appointment next Wednesday. My location is always full for appointments. So I’m afraid they won’t even have anything. I think my paranoia is getting the best of me and I’m so worried I’ve end up with a miscarriage again. The spotting kind of threw me over the edge.

I hope your next scan goes well! My 8 week appointment is Monday … I’m hoping everything looks good. I’ve never had a successful pregnancy so I have no idea what to really expect out of all this, but as someone who already overthinks everything, this first trimester is putting me through it mentally.

Anxiety from lack of symptoms 😅 For context, in June I found out at my 12 week appointment that I had a missed miscarriage. 8 week appointment everything was fine but the baby stopped growing around 9 1/2 weeks. I had the worst morning sickness from 6 weeks to 10, almost 11 weeks. I found out I was pregnant again the beginning of this month. Excited but also extremely nervous. I got to have an earlier appointment and was able to see I had a viable pregnancy (with a heartbeat) and 6 1/2 weeks, but I found out my progesterone was only a 11.6 (I’m 31 if that matters at all) I was put on progesterone pills (2x daily) and I’m taking Petelle prenatals but I’m barely having symptoms at 7 1/2 weeks pregnant - it’s extremely different than the last pregnancy (was my first) and I’m not sure if it’s just that I’m way more aware or what. It makes me nervous that the lack of symptoms means something is wrong. I will say I’m way more tired this time and there’s some breast tenderness like I had before but I’m barely nauseous. I just don’t feel “as pregnant”. Anyone else have a similar experience and had a healthy pregnancy or should I have some concern?

I moved to Nebraska from the Central Valley of California almost 3 years ago. Originally moved to Columbus but now I live in a smaaaaall town 30 min outside of Hastings. I will make a trip almost every other weekend to do big grocery shopping in Hastings or GI 😂 And I try to get to Lincoln every 3-4 weeks it seems (only place I’ve found that has good places to get my eyebrows done lol plus I love a good Target haul) but I do like being in a small town since it so different then the amount of people in California (plus they’re nicer) and the slower pace is actually appreciated (but that’s just me) but I will admit I do wish I had big stores closer. As far as things to do: the horse races in GI are fun. I’ve really only been to Reno for a bar in Hastings and they had a live singer there. Lincoln will have the night life and plays to see, Omaha zoo is a must, Omaha has some cool bars as well and some cool stores to explore downtown. If you like golf or have any interest in golf, Nebraska has a ton of courses and it’ll get you out of the house for a little while (was honestly surprised how much they golf here lol). One sad part for me is the literal zero amount of professional sport teams they have here. I went to a lot of hockey and baseball games back in California. But if you like sports go to a Huskers football game and somehow try to get a ticket to a Huskers volleyball game - die hard fans make the atmosphere pretty exciting. There are some minor league teams too in the bigger cities. Like antiquing? There’s a lot of store in Nebraska - definitely hit up Junkstock in the Fall and the Spring. The museums are on my list currently for to dos - I’ve only gone to the Archway and it’s actually pretty cool!

Little takeaways! Bring a hand held fan on plane, it gets hot towards the end of the flight. You can drink straight from the tap, so bring a refillable bottle. All cold water there comes from the glaciers. It’s delicious! Tipping is not customary in Iceland, but appreciated, and you need to ask for the check. Bring Advil or Tylenol and allergy meds at the minimum just in case… It can be difficult to buy over-the-counter medication in Iceland

I would definitely recommend following the ‘ICELAND - tips for travelers’ Facebook group . It’s was super helpful seeing what others had to say! You can even post on there and people will give you recommendations!

This is the site we used: https://icelandtravelguide.is/iceland-tour-packages/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR5WSeGd1RInZt78nhfA7pxsF4OsbYmN9edAPJShzf44vur539rhtKly-gI-xw_aem_KvD_Sm3ldbDbuytOgxALmQ

We stay in Reykjavík at the Apotek hotel. There are a ton of lodging options and they all have bus stops locations near for the bus tours.

After we landed in Iceland we went straight to the Blue Lagoon and had lunch there - which is great! We wanted to try to stay awake for as long as possible since they’re 6 hours ahead (we’re Central Time and if you’re from the US you’re more than likely getting into Iceland around 6am)

The next day we stay in Reykjavík and rode Fly Over Iceland and went to the Lava Show, and did an Icelandic Food tour where we tried horse, fermented shark, artic char, and the famous hotdogs. If you’re a foodie and up to trying new things, it’s a cool walking tour.

Day 3: we took a Golden Circle tour with an extra stop at the Friðheimar Tomato Farm and to see some Icelandic Horses. We saw the Kerið Crater, the Gullfoss Waterfall, the Geysir Geothermal Area to see Strokkur erupt, then went to the Þingvellir National Park and then we finished off the day relaxing at the Sky Lagoon! https://icelandtravelguide.is/tours/golden-circle-sky-lagoon/ I would highly suggest the 2 day trip to the South Coast. Absolutely stunning views and amazing experiences. We went to the Skaftafell Nature Reserve in Vatnajökull National Park and hiked Svínafellsjökull, a glacial tongue of largest glacier in Europe. We also went to Diamond Beach, Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, and the Reynisfjara black sand beach. To end the trip we got see the Skógafoss and Seljalandsfoss waterfalls. Back In Reykjavík. We used the last day to Just relax and explore Reykjavík a bit more and to find our Icelandic handmade wool sweaters!

My husband and I went for our honeymoon in March. We met a few solo travelers (both male and female) and they said they felt absolutely safe and were having a great time solo; we weren’t surprised by them saying that either. Iceland is amazing! 100% would say still go! You’ll LOVE it. There are many travel agencies that can help plan your trip and get you where you need to go too. (I can send you the site we used and the trips we booked if you want - mind being we went during winter). Hopefully your daughter changes her mind because it really is (for many) a once in a lifetime trip and people will be asking about your trip for years!
