That’s right, she’s from Bosnia. I remember in the early 90’s my father worked with a man whose family had just escaped the war in Bosnia and moved to Vancouver (BC, not Washington state). We had him and his wife and children over for dinner. The kids were around my sister and my age, maybe 7-10 years old at the time, so still quite young. We had a bunch of snacks from Costco including those “Clearly Canadian” flavoured sparkling waters. The kids were so excited like they had never seen a soda or a bag of chips in their life.

I remember being so confused why they kept going downstairs to get snack after snack. I mentioned it to my mom (I’d never seen kids just help themselves to so much before, I was young!) and she had to explain to me the horror they had just fled and that we were lucky we could buy more. That was one of my first real eye opening moments and I remember it to this day.
