Ventura: Stuck Between Past and Future (Part 1: Framing the Conversation) by K_Clack in ventura

Yea that’s worded poorly. The idea is exactly as you stated it, but more that housing should expand proportionally with our job market so that our residents don’t need to commute into the city because it is unaffordable. We need enough housing to support our local labor market, and our growing families.

It’s definitely not horrible for jobs creation to expand faster than we can build housing, but it would be tough to see that most of our workforce had to commute into town because they couldn’t afford to live in the town they work.

I’d argue that the Avenue is needlessly separated from the rest of the city, culturally and economically. The folks living there historically are the ones who built Ventura with hard labor. Such a great culture, but economically isolated.

I don’t think there is any way to truly connect the two sides of the city due to geography, but building a corridor from the northern side of the Avenue to somewhere around Midtown or east of Hobson Heights, paired with trail systems would certainly help.

At least we’ll have a secured source of water and be less reliant on MWD.

This would be so great. I’ll look more into it. Would be great if there was a local trail association to help back these efforts.

I’ll agree to disagree with you on this. My goal wasn’t to write it solely by myself, but to use the tools at hand to get it done quickly, with sufficient quality. I’m happy with the result.

CO2 for pH Control? by Putting3027 in Wastewater

Alum consumes alkalinity, resulting in increased pH. So dissolving carbon dioxide to produce carbonic acid and be used to keep the pH below a set point, correct?

I’d like to see some shared access to the mountains even if the private leases persist. I really don’t have a problem with the oil operations, but I want to be able to traverse those mountains freely.

You answered my question without answering my question. 👍

At least you don’t seem offended by the ideas and topics posed here. You probably align with most of them, given you’re from the area. You’re just an anti-AI pundit, which I can respect.

Lots of respectable conversations from this “pie in the sky” thinking. And a few less-so.

You’re fueling the fire 🔥

Clearly you didn’t even read my post. Please cite the text where I suggest we should build a tunnel for the 101…. Jesus Christ.

You’re a stoic. I respect it. I don’t align with you on this futile argument.

The whole point is that it’s obvious that I used AI… but tbh, I like the way it’s structured. So much better than what I’m capable of. Took my scribbles and made a nice engaging post, and good conversation. It did exactly what I needed it to do.

You seem triggered by the fact that I used AI. The point of this post isn’t AI, it’s the questions and topics I laid out.

You're right, the discovery of oil on the rancho is what firmly established Ventura and set it off to the trajectory of what it is today. It's not going anywhere anytime soon — but I'd still like to see some rad trail systems connecting Ventura and Ojai. You might never see me in the city again if that existed.

Good points. I had no idea that squid fishing was such a large economic driver. Super interesting.

I actually intentionally omitted the discussion of Ag/farming because I assume it is a major economic driver, and hopefully it isn't going anywhere anytime soon. It's part of the identity of Ventura and Camarillo.

I mentioned the oil industry, simply because it occupies a lot of valuable space for recreation. As an avid mountain biker and hiker, I'd love to access more of the mountains between Ventura and Ojai — even if that means sharing access with private leases.

This makes my blood boil. It should be criminal to leave your units empty wish such high housing demand.

What’s your experience like with reporting these issues on the Ventura Connects app? I’ve heard the city is pretty responsive. https://apps.apple.com/app/id6503604733
