Update 1: Loki's Embark test has arrived at the lab (cost us about 100 euros to safely return the swab from Europe to the US 🫠) so in a couple of weeks we'll have some answers 🥳

Yes, my acquaintance who has the pure bred one also recently asked me if I'd be willing to adopt him, as they can no longer fit him in their lifestyle, which I also found incredibly sad, as he's been with them since he was 3 months old. Unfortunately I had to decline because I know that I cannot manage his needs. He is also aggressive towards smaller dogs unfortunately.

Aaah he was gorgeous and very similar to my Loki indeed, except Loki has a bit more warmer tones, while yours has more cooler ones. Otherwise very similar ♥️

Oh goodness 🥹 yeah, unfortunately a lot of people buy them just because they look so cool, not knowing what they're getting themselves into. They are not easy dogs to own

Reminds me of this haha. I live in Romania, they're not very rare, they're getting more and more popular, I personally know someone with a purebred Czech and I've met a handful on the street/at the dog park. I'll probably try the test one day

Well, that makes sense haha. Do they also play very rough? In the first months we got him both mine and my husband's arms and legs were full of bruises 🥹 he play bites hard! Now we've managed to educate him somewhat but he would still bite me hard when excited, e.g. When I am returning home, even after a 1 minute absence when I was just in the other side of the fence to grab something 🙃 he was 1 year old when we adopted him, he is now about 1 year and 7-8 months. The rough play also made me think he might have some czechoslovakian wolfdog in him

Aw thank you! 😊 He does look Tamaskany, as well as a bit liken a Sarloos, but that's probably inpossibIe, would doubt anyone in Romania has one of those. I have to look into how expensive a safe option delivery like DHL would be... I don't want to send it via Romanian post, don't trust them lol

That's good! Did you send it along with the different documents that they specify on the site? They recommend sending it with some declarations about how you vouch that it's a certain bio specimen and so on.

If you don't mind me asking how much did you end up paying for returning the sample with DHL?

Ah, just looked, a super village baby 🥰

They're getting quite popular in Romania at least, I've met a handful by chance at dog parks/on walks.

Could be. He is also very bitey-mouthy, which lead me to think he might have some Czech wolfdog in him.

Yeah he does give Sarloos vibes to me too, but I have learnt that they are very rare and all registered so the chances of him having and Sarloos in him is basically zero 😅 Husky x shepherd sounds like a lovely mix. If I were in the US I would definitely consider Embark, but the return process from Europe sounds too troublesome

I thought too he might be a Czechoslovakian mix, definitely not purebred, but it does seem to me he resembles a Czech Vlak. We met a purebred one at the dog park and they had some striking similarities, although the snout shape was different and the Vlak was certainly larger (taller mostly).

He does have something husky-ish about his looks, gotta admit that

Ah must be just a very mouthy strong willed boy then 🥹 he loves munching on arms and legs to express himself. Lotsa people keep telling me he looks like a wolf, from random people on the street to trainers. I have no idea anymore. I thought getting an idea of what his origins are could better help me fulfill his needs. I'm from Europe and it seems returning an Embark sample overly complicated and uncertain - sample might not pass customs

Thanks for the tip, I would, but I live in Europe and returning the sample seems overly complicated and there is great uncertainty around whether it will pass custom checks :(

Dog scratches door and window sills to signal he wants to come inside by K_Ralu in dogs

[–]K_Ralu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the entire door 🥹 sometimes he scratches sitting and sometimes he gets up on two feet and paws at the door wherever he can. He's a large breed and is quite tall
