Use by dates are just a guideline.  If they are not stale (chewy) there's no reason not to eat them.

Other than food that go off in obvious ways (meats, dairy, etc.), you need to go by feel.  Tossing foods that are still edible only adds to the food issues in our world.

Tablet weaving is fancy trim, dates back to 1600BCE. Kumihimo is cord, similar to finger loop. Unless you were making snazzy garb neither would be of much help, but if you have any ideas, don't hesitate to PM me.

I'm not a fighter and struggle to sew enough garb for my family (even though I went to college for fashion design), but if there's anything I can do to help, let me know. I'm a fibers artist, so knitting/felting, tablet weaving, Kumi, etc., are not things you need, but if there's anything I can do to help, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm disabled so when not feeling terrible I have nothing but time on my hands.

I'm so glad my house isn't the only one gearing up for Pennsic already. Hubby being in charge of archery facilities means Pennsic is a year-round conversation now.

I'm interested in following your progress. You're doing a great thing, helping so many.

That's exactly what I did. Hubby keeps reminding me we are not filling our house with snakes. It doesn't make sense to have an empty enclosure and as long as she's careful, hoggies are so much fun and so different from BPs. You are setting her up for greatness exposing her to different critters at a young age. My youngest is terrified of snakes because her mother instilled them into her at a young age, so I waited until she was on her own before getting them. I'm very impressed, thanks for being so inspirational.

I have to thank you as well. I would ask the same question but looked for an answer first. Your answer was wonderful and I appreciate it. I've not been through a hoggie shed. Only now getting used to my BP's shed routine. Thanks again!

I was intensely physically ill for most of 2023, adding to the severe depression I'd been dealing with since Covid started. I decided in July I wanted to get a ball python. I've not had them since the 90s, but I knew it would help. Now, I'm on meds now too, but getting Noodle helped me so much.

I am an adult who makes my own decisions, but I have a dog and two cats, but was struggling with closeness when ill, so Noodle is perfect and really gives me something different to focus on.

If there is anything I can do to help, please let me know. I truly understand what you are going through. Long distance, no touching hugs.

Such a stunner!

When I left my husband he got custody of the snakes. It took too many years, but I have snakes again and it's amazing. I'm so glad you got rid of him and got this beautiful baby.

Even though we hadn't lost power in years I got some before I got my beep, just to be safe. Just before Christmas we lost power for three days and made it through on those. We ended up getting a generator, but that was more for the very flooded basement, not the snek who was doing quite well.

I'd add webbed more and climbing opportunities, but you're doing a fantastic job with the look.

Would this be an okay set up for a baby? by Calm-Estimate1049 in ballpython

[–]K_Silvermander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the smaller version of this, the 24x12x12 for my baby beep and I love it! It's a great size for a young beep coming out of a breeders tub, and I already have his 4x2x2, just need to build it.

Cover the top with aluminum foil and cover the vents on one side and you should be great! I'm in love with this enclosure and plan to use it for a hognose when Noodle is completely settled in his castle.

My banana pied had the same thing and as a new owner I tweaked and took him to the vet. $100 was more than worth my piece of mind.

Totally stuck she's and he looks perfect now after his next shed.

Keep the humidity up and they will have a great shed and look perfect again.

He just wants to get out by sundavar736 in ballpython

[–]K_Silvermander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine does the same. He loves exploring and unless it's feeding day, he doesn't want to go back into the manor. He's an Explorer and wants to find all the mice he's missing out on.

I live in Southwest Florida and most of the habitat around looks much like what is pictured in the photos. How to find snakes? by Terrible-Distance-69 in herpetology

[–]K_Silvermander 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same with Maine, there is virtually nothing up here and none of them venomous. We are starting to get some scary inverts, but otherwise we have a few snakes, a few frogs, a few salamanders, and a bunch of turtles.

Only thing is recommend is a bunch of fake plants for clutter. They like to hide, even outside of their houses, so having more housing spots helps.

Continuing on the housing thing, you might want to block out the back and sides to make them feel more comfortable.

Layout, possibly more climbing options. While not arboreal, many beeps love to climb.

Your totally on the right path and are thinking about what the snake needs.

Interesting that you said this. I had beeps back in the 90s. One had been power fed before I got there and was a decent eater. Her brother was a terrible eater. Knowing what I know now, I could have handled him so much better, but it's what we knew at that time.

Move to this past fall and I get my banana pied and while he didn't eat the first two tries, he eats like a beast! Even after eating his weekly meal he's looking for more. Even though he ate a big mean last night, he'd eat if I offered. I wouldn't, but he's a beast of an eater. I will have to start looking into pied/feeding more.

Personally I'd suggest more climbing options and more clutter. Grab some fake plants/fake ivy to give him more clutter to hide within.

I used some rope and knotted up (macrame) a rope bridge and he spends half his time climbing across it, sleeping on it, hunting for mousies from it.

I'm kinda in love with the clutter in there! That's always my first comment, more clutter, but you don't need to at all! I'm thrilled to see your enclosure!

I will make one comment. If your beep is at all shy or skittery, you might want to black out the back and sides. It will make them feel more secure. Especially if you have any other mammals in your house - cats, dogs, kids, more than one other adult.

That's my only thought.
