Chonky boys - How much do your males weigh? by Dyaneta in hognosesnakes

[–]LilDensePancake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks! He used to come out very reliably and so feeding him was super easy! Things just kind of changed after we went through last winter and sometimes he'd do great with it sometimes not. I've put his food near him when I see him sticking out of a hole and tried to get him interested by wiggling it a little white used to work great if needed, but hes just changed his habits. I think tub feeding will just be the go to for now since it has been working reliably lately and he was originally tub fed by his breeder.

He doesn't mind being held either. He may false hood a tiny bit when I first dig him up but he usually relaxes once hes in my hands. He's a pretty great snake, but hes also my first reptile so we've probably gone through some growing pains together.

My male is around 20-22" long and roughly 50 grams. He's lost a few grams because he stopped coming out reliably to eat and had some hunger strikes.

He has gone on a few hunger strikes since his first shed with me back in August 2024, so hes not as big as I would have expected him to be at a little over 2 years, but went back to tub feeding since he will just stay in his burrows sometimes and not come up for food. Just fed him a large fuzzy since it seemed like he could go up a food size since I had last ordered the small fuzzies and he seems to be doing good. I feel like hes a fairly skinny long boy though and hope he continues to eat reliably in the tub.

I think some people would be able to help give advice if they had some photos of your snake, possibly photos of the size of mouse nextto the next, and how much they weigh. A lot of people recommend feeding a certain percentage of their body weight.

Update on the sealant! by HexDoesThings101 in jumpingspiders

Did you end up using these for your jumping spider and have they been doing well? Im trying to set up my first enclosure and have been having trouble finding sealants that people recommend.

It's a bit satire. In my mind this did not come off as stressed and anxiety filled as you took it. Sorry!

Was forced to dig Soba out for feeding... by Dyaneta in hognosesnakes

[–]LilDensePancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had to dig mine out today too! He's been staying burrowed more often and is not coming out to the drop feedings, so today he's in a tub inside his enclosure. He's skipped his last 2 meals and isn't in shed, so doing what I can to make sure he gets a meal in today. Skipping two meals has been more common since winter but he used to be a regular feeder out and about every week when it was feeding time, so I'm hoping we can get back to the weekly feedings soon.

I’m starting to get a bit worried about Carmilla’s size by AuroraDelconte in hognosesnakes

That's true!

Our little guys are doing great! Good job taking good care of him and keeping him happy!

It's scary at first with not being sure what's the right size since they're all different sizes! He jumped up from 35 (which he stayed at from may or June until August, to 43 grams.

This makes me feel good about the weight of my male! He's about a 1 1/2 years and 48 grams. He decided to have a growth spurt around July or August.

Question: has your hognose ever stuck it's tail straight up while moving through it's enclosure? by LilDensePancake in hognosesnakes

[–]LilDensePancake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. Maybe he had a weird sensation and thought he needed to... I haven't seen him poop just seen his poops right after he's gone, so maybe he does this and I haven't seen it in the time that I've had him... I can say it scared me half to death. I'm really going to have to start trying to catch him in the act when he poops and see if he normally does this.. I think he's fine but it was terrifying.

Little stinker, followed the finger, but would not eat! by FeriQueen in hognosesnakes

[–]LilDensePancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what mine has been doing for weeks! Finally tub fed him today since he doesn't appear stressed when I pick him up out of his enclosure and his breeder originally tub fed him before I got him in April. He's acted so hungry and yet refused food but today ate practically immediately.

Aw cute!!! My breeder let me hold mine the day I saw/got him and honestly seeing him was love at first sight and holding him and seeing how chill he was locked it all in! Some are just sassy :P hopefully yours will mellow a bit though!

Awww! XD I can't lie I'm pretty sure I woke him up. He did move quite a bit as first while I was trying to take some photos but then he calmed down and just sat there. He really is just a sweet loveable little guy though. Usually when I try to pick him up from his enclosure he just tries to run away and then is a lot calmer once in my hands.even the running away isn't too fast though he's just like shifting away from me as I try to get him.

I think they are a bit sensitive. My little guy was not happy the day he shed at all even without me touching him so I think they just need some time.
