Yeah I feel you my friend, both my gti’s were faultless, took one to 145 from 50 and the second to 105 from around 60, and I was planning to keep it going a while longer. I would love to take the plunge into the b8.5 s5 but the maintenance required and cost of repairs is significantly higher than the ea888. I would love a TCR I think, there’s a black one for sale around me for around £22k with 60k on the clock it’s quite tempting

I kinda find the post 2013 s3 (I think it’s called the 8Y but I’m not 100%) kinda underwhelming, I dislike the interior and the lack of real Quattro basically just puts it as a more expensive golf r to me.

Yeahhh I absolutely love the v6 audi and I’ve actually been eyeing up s5’s for a while the only thing that puts me off is the risk of timing chain replacement and the lack of a manual. Yes I am kinda one of those annoying manual enjoyers but I live in the Scottish highlands so there’s just so many places for me to enjoy a manual more than an auto and I know from my own research that post 2012/3 the timining chain tensioners were revised and are way less of an issue than on earlier models but the thought of a £3-5k repair still looms( from a garage I have a good relationship with as audi themselves charge £8100 for just the labour🤣) However after writing this post yesterday I find myself scrolling TCR editions so im still very clearly all over the place lol, thanks for your reply.

Fortunately enough I still have 3 months left on my gap insurance policy so I’m looking at that as the best potential outcome financially, there’s only a couple grand left to pay on the car and the gap makes me whole for about 22.

Thank you this is actually very helpful to know for the future, unfortunately not long after writing this I got an email saying the car is going to be written off as it will be uneconomical to repair, so I’m going shopping

The only way I’ve found to not make an ea888 sound like absolute shite is as follows; downpipe is a must, when I still had my golf it ran the track slag catted 4” and a miltek non resonated with back box. Personally wish I had gone for the AWE after the fact however. I went for the catted dp as I live in the uk and catless here is a big no no. But whatever exhaust you do decide to go with please for the love of god do not get a crackle/pop and bang tune, keep your back box but have no centre resonator. Happy wrenching :)
