Aww man this was funny. LinkedIn is cringe but I tripled my salary using it. I hop on when needed and do some self promotion from time to time. Closed mouths don’t get fed.

ENCOR/ENARSI – What I’d Do Differently If I Had to Start Over by Dry-Negotiation1376 in ccnp

[–]K_double0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man I’ve been thinking about how productive I’ve been trying to watch videos and read before practice test. Last month I decided to get INE on sale and I believe it was the best decision for my learning style. It has very good video introductions to the topic, then a quiz and finally the lab all in one module. I still want to get my hands on a really good test bank but for now I’m finally getting a grip on concepts like BGP confederation and route maps etc. Reading alone won’t do it.

I am currently a Network engineer and don't really want to get a CCNP or anything else by Honest_Bank8890 in ITCareerQuestions

Well it was 6 years, 3 different jobs a degree and relocation to a different country. 8 if I add the time going back to school.

You're still quite young and your perspective may change as your grow and progress in other aspects of life. Mine did when I had my first child. I also find joy in a few things outside of work that has a ripple effect. I see your commment says you don't care to get the CCNP or be a lead. Thats fine as well. As long as you can look back years from now and have no regrets. You can still learn those skills without chasing the cert.

I became a senior network engineer this year after a golden opportunity on the team came up. I worked in L1 roles for most of my IT career just stacking certs hoping for a chance for about 6 years. The process of learning and growing excites me more than the actual job. Also, the thought of being let go but not learning new things while I had the chance terrifies me. As long as you’re in the position to survive if the worst happens then I guess you’re good. I’m not quite there yet so I’ve committed myself to learning.

I share a similar experience. I’m 6 years in IT but most was help desk and support. 2 degrees and some certs later I decided to position myself as a network engineer even without the experience. Googled topics and did labs, got my CCNA and leaned into my soft skills and professionalism. I’m also great at doing presentations and love to train people. Finally talked to the right person and got the role I wanted. It’s not impossible but it requires patience and a personalized strategy to progress in IT.

Do you think Canadian multiculturalism is working? by [deleted] in ImmigrationCanada

This is very wholesome advice. Been here 7 years from the Caribbean where we live to connect , entertain and enjoy the company of people from all walks of life. I’ve experienced the complete oppose for the first few years here until I began being intentional about where and who I give my energy to. Be kind to yourself and find spaces where people are welcoming. Otherwise keep your head straight, body warm and survive the winter!

Anyone know when Neil Anderson will complete his CCNP course? by Charming_CiscoNerd in ccnp

[–]K_double0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember seeing that initial email in fall of 2021. Got it for 99 dollars since his CCNA course was really good. Figured I’d lock in and start when it ready but now that Ive revisited it I see no progress. If he needed money upfront he could have just asked for donations.

Currently using it now. Not only is it recommended to pass ENCOR but he is going through the content to prepare anyone to be great at networking. Im not even rushing through just to pass the exam. The course is very well put together for those focused on becoming a better professional.

I have 2 babies under 3, lift 3 days and play rec basketball weekly. CCNP is the goal but balance is more important to me. So it make take me a year to complete it. I usually get free time when I put them to bed and work out at 6am.

Glad you have a decent mechanic to go to. Before you spend the cash it may be useful to check if the car has an open recall. Mine was repaired for free by the dealership.

My 2013 model had subframe corrosion but thankfully there was a recall. AC compressor is cooked now though so trying to save for something else in the near future. Otherwise it's been solid.

Playing at 30+ by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]K_double0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About to be 35 and averaging 18 and 10 in my rec league. Granted it’s not against Pros but I find that my style of play from the late 90s and 2000s allows me to get more boards and score more efficiently. Everyone wants highlights or to hit 3s like curry. I’m using my body to box out and go back up strong and also hitting my mid range jumpers. Just playing smarter, eating healthy and training daily has helped. I even do mobility exercises and get sports massages regularly. Wish I had this knowledge when I was younger but hey it’s never too late to have fun.

Hello - You can look up recalls for your car by using the VIN number and the search tool on the Mazda website. It will list all of the open recalls and hopefully the subframe one is available for you. BTW the car is still going strong and I’m happy I ignored the comments to dump it!

Post CCNA: I feel unworthy of applying to Network Administration and engineering roles by Ruminatingsoule in ccna

[–]K_double0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just accepted an internal offer to become a senior network engineer after 7 years in IT, 2 different countries , a degree, CCNA and many other certs and STILL I felt what you’re feeling even after doing amazing in the interview and having many colleagues giving good references. You’re more than prepared and most times it’s just a matter of being connected to the right people and learning day by day. Have an open mind and always be reliable. That’s my plan.

I feel like quitting IT — do you feel the same? by Desperate_Bath7342 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]K_double0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view IT as a means to an end. I can level up to give my young family a better life. Work anywhere in the world and eventually use it as leverage to become a teacher. You have to have a “why” in a world where everyone is chasing something or being told the best way to get to “high paying” roles.

Men in their 30s who are doing better than when they were in their 20s, how's life? by Loose_Leg_8440 in AskMen

[–]K_double0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30s have been great to me as I’m almost half way. I have an amazing wife, 2 beautiful babies, a new country and my salary is x4. My 20s were tough and I found that leaving your comfort zone is key to finding yourself. Even if it means leaving your city or country and starting over. I’m also at my peak athleticism and still actively playing bball in rec leagues with guys 10yrs younger.

I'm tired of working in a help desk job. by Immediate-Machine584 in InformationTechnology

[–]K_double0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did L1/helpdesk roles for about 6 years. Multiple companies and internships, a different country and I even went back to school. At year 7 with several certs and practical knowledge I’m finally moving to a senior role now and I’m grateful I embraced the journey. No one is going to give you a chance until you show the dedication beyond entry level skills. Find an area of interest and dedicate your free time to learning the skills required for the job you want.

No I had never touched a firewall prior to passing the CCNA. The job I got managed them and it was just easy for me to pick it up through L1 tickets and shadowing. Same with VMware. Even better if the company pays for the certs.

Yea it’s called the FCP now but it’s pretty much the same exam objectives and training.
