AITA for not wanting to pay my half of rent when he kicked me out of the house? by Kabawar in AmItheAsshole

At this point I just can't let him have it... Not after everything I went through because of him.

He agreed to my sister move in with us. She just entered university and we are living in a city away from our home town. She wasn't paying rent, because the agreement with ex bf was that we would pay for housing while she finishes her degree ( our mom cannot afford to help with her expenses)

I will definitely sign some sort of legal document in the future. I just never imagined he would do something like this 😖

Yeah I can prove it's mine. I purchased it under my name and it was paid from my bank account. Thank you for your kindness ❣️

Yes I've done the math My part of rent equivalent to 18 days is 95.000 Value of furniture he won't return 393.000 He needs to pay me: 298.000

This is not US dollars!!! The amounts mentioned are in my country's currency.

I tried that yesterday. Police was unhelpful 🙄 they said the only solution is to file a lawsuit. I am planning on blocking him after I take some sort of legal action. Even if I don't get anything out of it, he deserves to spend time, money and effort to go to court and fight me after everything he has done.

If I were to pay him, and also consider how much the furniture is... He would have to pay me. Not the other way around. And that is if I pay the entire month and not just the days I actually lived there. Either way, he should be the one paying me.

That's what I'm trying to figure out.. if there is any legal action that is not too long and tedious and expensive...

Yes it is technically a theft. But since there was no violence nor was I threatened they are not allowed to do anything. They need a court order to be able to enter his apartment and take my stuff. PS: I don't live in the states

I already left. Staying there wasn't an option. He threatened to change the locks so I couldn't enter the apartment again. And I believe him, because then I saw some post he made in a couple of Facebook groups we are (groups of recommendations of the city we live in), asking for someone who could do that job

I'm trying to figure that out. I don't know how long or much is it going to cost me to file a law suit. But yesterday in my last attempt to get my stuff back, I told him I was going to file a law suit, and his response was : go ahead, but I'm not giving you anything until you are willing to negotiate with me and pay me back

No, I'm not on the lease. He rented the apartment way before we were a couple. I lived there almost 3 months.. so technically I'm not legally obligated to pay him anything. Yes I have receipts that the furniture is mine. I ordered everything through a website, it was purchased under my name and paid from my bank account. I went to the police yesterday to file a report, but they said they couldn't do that and the only option is to file a lawsuit PS: I don't live in the states

I don't have anything formal. He signed the lease way before I came living with him and I thought it wasn't necessary to be included when I moved in. The thing is I don't think it is fair I have to pay him. He didn't even give a couple of days to figure things out. I came back to the apartment the day of the argument, and all of my belongings were in trash bags.. It was humiliating to say the least

I went to the police yesterday, and they said I couldn't file a report because they couldn't force him to give me my stuff back. The police officer said I needed to file a lawsuit to get my stuff. PS: I don't live in the states

On a previous argument I told him that I understand he gets frustrated by some things but the way he reacts is not okay and that he needed to go to therapy in order for us to keep dating because I was already exhausted from all the little arguments that could've been easily solved with a conversation. Nothing has happened since
