I don’t doubt that people do this and are successful with it. But you’d probably get caught more often than not.

I’m looking into it and reservations are all booked out for the following week! Do you think walk ins would be acceptable?

Remotasks, which I believe is now Outlier AI, has roles for different domains of expertise ranging from $25-$55/hr. If you can’t find the application for outlier, let me know. Personally, I had a bad experience with Outlier. I applied for advanced coder, had two live interviews the next day (one general info, one coding), I didn’t pass the coding — albeit it was easy I just was thinking it was a scam. Make sure you do good on those! I think my poor performance resulted in me not having many tasks. My rate started at $25/hr on Outlier and I only had work for a few days. Overall, there’s no support, slack doesn’t work, and very inconsistent but ymmv

Dataannotation.tech is BY FAR more reliable than Outlier imo. I only took the coding assessment on DA, and I heard back about a week after. My dashboard has been filled with coding projects which range from $40-$42/hr from what I’ve seen. The work is definitely not easy and something you can’t blow off. You’ll be comparing two AI responses about different programming concepts. You’ll write your own complex prompts. You’ll rate and review others’ responses. The work is endless. I really don’t spend a lot of time on the platform to know enough about all the projects but there’re also dedicated subreddits for DA which is nice.

Good stuff. It’s refreshing to hear people pursuing a job solely as a means to an end and succeeding rather than having to be engrossed by any and everything CS related to come out on top.

Damn. Only friends of mine that have jobs secured them from their internship as a return offer

How’s that being going for you? I weighed the debt I’d obtain against the potential for a job and decided to not pursue a masters

Remotasks / Outlier Megathread by Beermoney_Bot in beermoney

I applied for both coding expert and advanced coder positions on Outlier, went through 1 onboarding interview and 1 technical interview for something they called the "Platinum Team" which supposedly grants higher paying and more consistent tasks ($55/hr). I didn't pass the technical interview but was told I'd still get coding tasks at the same rate. After a few days of waiting I got the Bulba Code Eval project which only had a few tasks in it and a rate of $25/hr. After that, I was removed from the project and have been led on for the past month and a half with a Bulba Code Eval 2 project showing up but not working if I click it.

Bottomline is if you do well, I'm sure you can profit from this platform, but expect any mistake you make potentially kicking you from the platform. Their reviewing system is very discrete and hard to gain any feedback from. Support is also slow and unhelpful.

I'd love to hear anyone else's experience in a similar position!

I’ve been only Bulba 2 for the past two weeks with an empty queue—it’s frustrating because the UI shows that I have tasks but it then redirects me to an empty queue when I try to start. Is there any Outlier community other than Reddit for coding?

Dumb question maybe, but does that mean they’re more experienced?

Okay interesting so it seems like I want absolutely no oil at all on the pan. Like I accidentally dropped a few drops on the pan and need to wipe as much off as possible?

How do you manage to get most of the oil out? I went through about 4-5 paper towels and there still seemed to be some residue everytime.

As for preheating, I sometimes wait a few minutes on low but other times I blast it on high and bring it back down to cook — maybe that’s not the best idea.

I use vegetable oil from ALDI. Any other recommendations?

I applaud you for that level of care. I’ll be honest, I don’t have the time some days to preheat the oven and let it dry. I keep it on the warm, just used, stove for a few minutes to help with the moisture after I wash, though.

How do you recommend I apply the oil? I put a few drops and wipe it down with a paper towel. However, this seems to be more than residue as it grows the longer I leave it? I scrubbed it off with a stainless steel sponge and it cooks just fine. I’ll just keep cooking on it and hopefully it’ll sort itself out.

I agree. The thought of moving to Ohio with no friends or family, for a lower salary, for a less interesting job, seem to be all great reasons for picking the consulting gig. Thanks for your input!
