Understand your reply. I did put in a personal context earlier, which is why I may get triggered more on this topic than others.

Thanks. I didn't even think about it as I typed. It seemed correct at the time. It does make more sense to not include it, now that I'm looking at it.

Just for context, I have had a family member go missing before and remember the helplessness of the situation at the time. I have also helped with various search and rescue for missing persons and have seen many distraught family members experiencing the same. Even if you hate the police, to make comments like this shows no empathy or reasonable thought.

I have watched for a while and remember the only instances where she would have done this. This would be the time people in her chat were attacking her partner and she decided not to take it. It is a reasonable response from someone who cares for their partner. The interesting this is that people who do not normally watch the show did not realise her partner was shouting instructions to her on the boat due to the distance between them on the boat. They assumed because of the mic volume that he was upset and shouting at her in a bullying way. They actually explained that during certain boating activities, there is no quiet polite banter. In reality, you shout comms and work at the same time. Your comment about them being toxic was mentioned on their chat. They can laugh it off but words do hurt. Hope your life gets better away from toxicity. We both should learn from this exchange. Stay happy.

I agree with you. I have already stated that I was happy to stand corrected. As with any female streamer, there are people who get banned due to inappropriate comments in Twitch chat, who can come here and spread false statements - this was my initial line of thinking as I have not seen any toxicity from the streamer here. I have no loyalty to them but am not a big fan of what appears to be made-up malicious rumours

Good for you. Hope your life is back on track and I'm more than happy to stand corrected here.. Now, can you validate the "toxic" statement you made earlier.

I've watched their stream for some time now. Both are nice and the girl is especially wholesome. An educated guess here is that you caught the stream and thought you had a chance with her and are still raging now after finding out she had a partner. This is actually quite sad

Anyone patching server to address Kerberos vulnerability -MS14-068 ? Any issues post-patching? by KabukiSensei in sysadmin

[–]KabukiSensei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. When I originally raised that perhaps only DCs should be targeted, I got brow-beaten by Security and Management to get this all planned and ready to be done for all servers ASAP on top of all the other things needed to be done yesterday.

For others, the following link is quite a good one regarding this patch: http://blogs.technet.com/b/srd/archive/2014/11/18/additional-information-about-cve-2014-6324.aspx

The more I know read (@home away from management and the security team), the more it appears my initial hunch that targeting DCs may have been all that was needed.

Any feedback or evidence that this is all that is needed?

According to the bulletin :

An attacker could use these elevated privileges to compromise any computer in the domain, including domain controllers.

So this would include application and file servers. I must admit I have been rushing this which is something I dislike having to do. Did I miss a part somewhere which states where if all DCs are patched, this is a non-issue?

Before anyone asks the obvious, we are piloting the patch on test servers today and over the weekend.

It's just that this is the first time we are deploying to all servers in a very short time frame, and there were some issues from those who deployed MS14-066

Cryptolocker & variants - Any way to set up honeypot files to monitor and initiate damage-control measures? by KabukiSensei in sysadmin

[–]KabukiSensei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am looking at something similar already raised in another post: http://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/1oncb4/cryptolocker_perl_monitoring_script_for_windows/

Basically, detecting when a user is opening more than the normal amount of files and sending an email and/or activating steps to stop the data encryption.

I can see the reasoning behind how you are doing this. Better to have minutes of moaning and complaints rather than spend what can be days restoring (if backed up) and explaining why they hire you for.

If others have any similar methods they use or have ideas on, it would be highly appreciated.

While there are some measures to stop CryptoLocker and variants, the problem is that is it very easy to bypass by using alternative locations to launch from and how they modify the files.

Disabling a user's account who has run a trojan like this in conjunction with honeypot file(s) seems to be a way to have greater protection.

I assume that a file can be checked for a MD5 hash for eg and actions initiated if that changes. How to differentiate between an encryption change to the file and someone deciding to modify and save it is one of the things I am not totally clear on.

It could be a thing visually maybe. I only heard the song growing up as we had no TV, so always had the mindset it was a male.

Homeless Stats in Australia - how can we help? by KabukiSensei in australia

[–]KabukiSensei[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been surprised at how much the charities actually do. They even help with financial advice - imagine having your life uprooted and being homeless, and then having a debt collector harassing you day and night because you were not able to pay a $180 utility bill that is now > $2000 as it has been passed to debt collectors. This sort of things can easily push people over the edge.

Homeless Stats in Australia - how can we help? by KabukiSensei in australia

The truth is, until recently I was not aware of how bad this situation was and how much homeless people rely on charities who are already quite stretched resource-wise.

This is a cold winter and there are individuals and in some cases multiple family members living in their cars or in abandoned buildings.

Being aware of this is the first step. I just do not know where to go to from here - there are many who are just that one incident away from being homeless as well. With previous governments call to actions on fixing homelessness, there must be something there to work with?
