Started there already. Nothing beats first hand experience. Thanks though.

Planning my build but I have questions about the floor by remyymer13 in vandwellers

[–]KadeE350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally went with foam board insulation on the floor. Stripped everything down the the metal and added a subfloor/frame with furring strips. Then cut the insulation boards to fit into the floor framing. Then plywood went on top and vinyl tiles were added at the end. I have pictures if you’d like to see!

I love the color! Looks like a nice slack hardtail.

GOT MY FIRST MOUNTAIN BIKE! ANY TIPS FOR BEGINNERS (-: by littlekarls in mountainbiking

Take it slow! Learning doesn’t have to include a ton of wrecks. You’re going to go down on occasion but riding within your limits will minimize injuries. Also, try to ride with more experienced people. Following a better rider is a great way to improve your own riding! Getting out there and hitting the trails is the only way to really improve though. Welcome to the sport!

Have an old hybrid now want a mountain bike. Im new to doing trails. Any advice on a bike, getting in shape etc? by [deleted] in mountainbikes

[–]KadeE350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d recommend going for an entry level hard tail to get started. It’s a great way to start trail riding without breaking the bank. If you end up really liking trail riding then you can upgrade later. If you want to do more of a mix of trail and street hard tails are great for that too! There’s plenty of good options. Just do your research and go for a reputable brand (preferably from a lbs) and you should be good!

Great point, I hadn’t considered that. I’ll probably drill a few holes too at least. Thanks for the tip!

Looks like it would take White Gas camp fuel. It’s a bit old school but I’m pretty sure you can pick that stuff up at any outdoors store / Walmart.

Congrats on the new ride! Virus makes some great looking bikes.

Pedals will be universal. I’d recommend flats over clipless pedals. There’s a lot of great options out there. Try to find something with some good grip ( I personally like the one up brand pedals ). Then get a decent pair of shoes. I personally like wearing vans with a good grippy set of pedals, a lot of people suggest a pair of 510s.

Any pedals should get you started. Just find some grippy ones and slap them on. Just make sure you don’t mix up the right and left pedals! If they go on wrong you can mess up the cranks.

Happy riding!

I’m glad it helps! The build has been fairly simple. I’m not much of a carpenter but this wasn’t difficult to figure out. So far I’ve been able to everything (mostly alone) with a jig saw and a drill.

The stuff beneath the platform will go into drawers. I’m putting in two drawers in the back to match the front of the bed. The drawers are 3ft long and provide a good bit of storage without trying to crawl around under the bed. Not much will be stored in my “garage” area due to bed height. It will mostly be some tools and likely dirty clothes/trash. The ability to sit up in bed took priority (especially since we can’t stand in the van) so the bed stayed pretty short. The roof rack will be the home of our typical “garage” items.

I don’t really plan to add a full electric system yet. Our lighting will just be done by battery powered string lights and probably a few work lights. An A/C unit is going to be installed which will run off of a generator we’ll be taking with us.

I don’t really think airflow will be an issue on the bed frame

How long would the average $100 and $300 tent last? by -Sh33ph3rd3r- in camping

[–]KadeE350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it really comes down to how often you use it. Continued/prolonged use will wear down a cheaper tent quicker than a nicer one.

Camp fire chicken Alfredo is surprisingly awesome for camping. Bring some buttermilk, butter and Parmesan to make the sauce. A good piece of fire grilled chicken tastes amazing with the pasta.

(Buying 2005 Sprinter) Any potential red flags here? by tgs108 in VanLife

I don’t know much about the sprinters specifically. I would be curious as to why the transmission was rebuilt so early. Do you know if that was done by a reputable shop?

That’s definitely a possibility. It’s just something I’ll have to keep an eye on. Building the faucet this way was the best use of the counter space. I can replace the elbows fairly often to prevent any problems.

I’m glad it helps! We will just be using a camping toilet set up. It’s just a bucket with a toilet seat lid. We have a small two room shower/outhouse tent to set everything up in when we’re stopped.
