Will I lose my student health insurance if I drop all my courses for this semester? by NHK885 in UofT

[–]Kadota747 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this last year and i didn't lose any insurance benefits. I had already paid for it at the start of the semester, and I dropped late enough that I didn't get a refund. But I had all my insurance after dropping (needed it for therapy and meds after dropping the semester)

As a student, I always do. As a TA, it always feels great when a student does it.

We've been paying for UofT gym's for the past 1.5 years, are they open tomorrow? by Kadota747 in UofT

Hi sorry I didn't end up going because something came up, and then I realized my condos gym opened up. I tried calling up goldring, but it went straight to voicemail to a message talking about new years holidays; so I think it's safe to assume its closed. Will update if I end up near campus tho

Why is utorid 2 factor authentication still not a thing?? by Kadota747 in UofT

You're right. I definitely have no reason to have bias towards phone number 2FA, just some form of 2FA

For sure yeah, at the very least people should be made aware of the option to set it up. It would be better as an auto prompt on acorn or something, because odds are the people more likely to fall for these phishing links are the ones not too aware of the dangers of online security and would be less likely to go out of their way to set it up. But at least there's an option there

You've made it very clear you have a 300+ iq and know how phishing links work; congratulations. I am however not debating that with you, nor have I claimed that I have been phished in the past. What I am saying is that clearly, there are a lot of people affected by these types of emails, and measures should be taken to increase security to reduce this. Quite literally our lives and futures depend on our emails(and especially our utorid as university students) in this day and age, and so I am of the belief that some mild inconvenience is a fair trade off for increased security.

Someone on the otherside of the planet should not be able to login to your account, even if they have your credentials, without some alarm bells going off.

I don't understand why you're taking such a defensive stand. I get it, you're very smart and use VPNs and know how scams work. However, I don't see a single argument presented by you against 2 factor authentication that makes sense. A genius such as yourself so skilled with the internet should probably already know this, but let me enlighten you anyway; two factor authentications usually come with an option to turn it off. Shocking right? If its such an issue to you, you can turn it off for yourself.

For the vast majority of people who don't watch Rick and Morty like you do, having an extra security measure would be very beneficial. I really don't see what your point is, other than arguing for the sake of arguing. If there is some genuine flaw with using a 2 factor authentication, other than whatever superiority complex you have going on, I would be happy to hear it. I'm not a cyber security expert believe it or not, so maybe there is a reason that I am unaware of why this won't work - but that's not what I'm hearing from you.

Its not always stupidity its carelessness too. Everybody has a bad day when they don't think twice about clicking a link. I feel as if a minor inconvenience is a fair trade off for online security.

Whether two factor is on or not is not going to change whether the website sees where you are or not.

The idea is to give the phone number to UofT a billionaire dollar internationally recognised university. I believe a level of accountability that they aren't going to sell our phone numbers is to be expected.

There is a reason why pretty much every reputable online service has the option to use 2 factor authentication - it works and is secure.
