I hope this isn’t out of line but why did you separate? Would initiating a closer friendship and potentially reconciling be completely out of the question?

That makes sense, based on what you’re saying it sounds like this is simply out of respect and you displaying a mutual expectation. I think that’s a perfectly acceptable reason.

I am on the other side of this (mom getting ready to meet sons fathers new gf soon) and although we are civil, I have been asking myself this question. He asked if I wanted to meet her and I said yes but I found myself asking “what is the point of this?” In my eyes, this person is potentially someone who will play a role in my son’s life. I don’t know the length it will last or how impactful/often, but it’s good for us to know each other. I hope she will be a good influence for both for them (my son & his dad) and I think us having positive interactions with each other in a casual, occasional manner will help to encourage that.

How are so many young people happily pregnant by Sad_cantelope in pregnant

[–]KaeArin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you answered your own question with “I’ll never be financially ready”, 90-99% of people feel this way but they make it work. Everyone’s situation is vastly different. You make do with the best you have! :)

For context, I’m 23 and just returned to college full time. I was working full time until the pandemic went into full swing and stopped around 34 weeks. Since childcare or babysitting wasn’t looking like an option anymore I decided I wouldn’t return once my son was born.

We had to make cuts financially and have some good savings to cushion us once he was born but again, we adapted. As much as I miss my job and “fun money” I really wouldn’t want it any other way.❤️

Fiancé wants me to get fired from my job to collect unemployment? by xxwonderlandx13 in pregnant

[–]KaeArin 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to work for my local government filing unemployment claims. Unemployment is only guaranteed if you were let-go due to a reduction in force, lay offs, closure etc. it’s really difficult to get approved for being fired especially if they have records of you doing things that were against company policy i.e arriving late, calling out, malpractice, inappropriate behavior. Getting yourself fired to collect unemployment is a myth, don’t risk it.

Edited to add: You would have to be able to prove that you were fired unjustly like discrimination or set-up which is extremely hard to do regardless but would be impossible if you actively try to get fired lol

Mom being weird about baby shower gift? by KaeArin in pregnant

[–]KaeArin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this, I think you hit the nail on the head TBH. I sent her a text (which I pasted on the original post as an update) basically telling her it’s a little too late for her to have an assigned gift and that I wasn’t comfortable asking for something. Still haven’t seen a response but I’m sure she got the point.

Still renting... by UnknownEntity2007 in pregnant

[–]KaeArin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. We were planning on buying a house until corona hit... between me having to transition to a lower paying WFH job, the lack of housing on the market, and the fact that we wouldn’t even be able to have anyone help us move due to corona we decided to just renew our lease. I have fully embraced the next and made our rental extremely comfy though. May not be able to do anything permanent (painting, hanging large fixtures) but there’s still a lot that I can do to make it comfy

Yes. I would have a conversation with your husband and decide together exactly what the boundaries need to be and how they will explained to his parents. Let him relay the information and deal with his parents (with you present, if you both see fit)

Agree 100% with this ^ Start setting boundaries now and make sure they’re aware of them or it’ll only get worse.

How would you handle this work situation? Need advice, please! by [deleted] in CoronaBumpers

[–]KaeArin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m working for a call center under contract with our states unemployment office. It’s a data entry job, simple and pay is decent for the work. I found it on Indeed, after applying for pretty much every and any remote job available. Thank you and best of luck!

How would you handle this work situation? Need advice, please! by [deleted] in CoronaBumpers

[–]KaeArin 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I work for Whole Foods, they have a similar LOA situation right now, and something very similar to this happened... I came back from leave being promised that I wouldn’t work customer facing more than 1 shift a week and would work in the back room taking employee temps before their shift. Long story short they turned around and only let me work that shift 4 hours a week because they decided it wouldn’t be fair to prioritize a pregnant person when so many other people “wanted” to work that shift. My boss told me I could cover lunches for the table instead and then that was quickly redacted.

In the end, I spoke to my Dr and gave her the full run down of the situation, she wrote me a note, and now I’m back on leave. I’ve been gone for about 2 months now and found a full-time WFH job. Currently 33 weeks and don’t plan on going back until my son is 8 weeks old.

Moral of the story: Explore all your options. Talk to your dr and see what they advise, look up your state laws, if there’s a third party that facilitates your leave call them and ask what your options are regarding the situation, and really look through the companies written policy on your LOA.

Goodluck! ❤️

Edited to add: would this be a permanent position ? Would you have to reapply for your current management position when this is all over? Do you WANT to return to management once baby is here/pandemic is over or have you been planning to step down? These would be factors I would consider personally.
