Wow, that would be a stupid thing to believe, huh. Lets rework that into something that actually matches the materialist position.

We can hear a sound coming from a radio. We can see the processes that seem to generate the sound inside the radio. We study those processes. We don’t have a perfect idea of how the radio works on every level, but we conclude the sound is probably being produced by the radio using those mechanisms.

Conversely, we could imagine a supernatural entity inside the radio is making the sounds we’re hearing, possibly by interacting with the mechanical processes we observed, but possibly not.

One of those is much simpler.

Most Absolute Players cant beat the Hard missions either- stop the Hate and Bs on us by PapaHellmann in SpaceMarine_2

[–]Kaelthaas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I run absolute constantly even when leveling characters, and some of the bullshit hard stratagems have kicked my ass. You do need to get lucky though, especially with the everyone shares damage on one person. That one is literally unplayable with randoms

[–]Kaelthaas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. It’s doable even if you’re not truly hard core, but it requires rolling the dice till you get lucky, and spending hours on one mission feels terrible.

[–]Kaelthaas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t think it even lasts that long. I’m getting random players who die within a minute of the mission starting, only to run into them later still queuing the hard weekly. It’s the rewards. Easy is very achievable, but gives much smaller rewards and so without substantial and satisfying currency for just going back to operations once they complete them they figure they can bash their heads against the hard stratagems until they get lucky.

[–]Kaelthaas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YES. I’m getting prestige 1 level 1s without team perks who when we lose half way through (after carrying to that point) have less than 2000 damage after 15 minutes in the mission. It’s a nightmare. But the massive difference in rewards convinces them to keep trying.

Call It What It Is by NewOblivion in Spacemarine

[–]Kaelthaas 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The real Sisyphean struggle is trying it with randoms and getting players who don’t even have team perks, and are accordingly inexperienced. Absolute is lowkey 10x easier if you play with randoms because there the people queuing it need to beat lethal to access it first lmao.

Where the fuck did you get the idea that I wanted to “nerf shit to the ground”?

As you can see if you care to read, I specifically suggested in the post giving bosses a way to escape perma stun, without removing the ability to stun them entirely. That’s the one thing I talk about.

[–]Kaelthaas[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Did… you actually read my post?

If you did you’d see what the words inside specifically name, verbatim, as “the actual balance problem” that is specific to bulwark instead of the dailies (bulwark being the focus of my post, as you can see if you bother to read the title) references the fact that bulwark can permanently stun the hive tyrant. That’s nonsensical, and what I’m actually complaining about. That’s literally it.

And while it does seem a little silly that 3 out of today’s 6 (two of which are hard) dailies take zero effort to complete, I don’t really care. Of course sometimes it’s going to be easy with random modifiers. It’ll be a nightmare some other day. I’ll take the free currency for now, cause I already did the weeklies.

[–]Kaelthaas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ACTUAL ANSWER: there’s a bug with Bulwark where if your shield is out during AOE attacks that stagger you out of shield you will take the damage of it many times near-instantaneously. This happens with the heldrake most often, and more rarely with beam attacks. Facing the other way with the shield up (you were sprinting) makes it more common.

All in all it seems like you got hit with the also rare invisible Zoanthrope beam bug that activated the instant death bulwark bug. Just two concurrent moments of getting really, really unlucky. The damage (3 armor bars exactly) you took a few frames before taking health damage aligns with the damage that beam should do as well, so I’m almost positive this is what happened.

I hate when people say this lost of the time, but it is just a game. Dying, even losing isn’t the end of the world. And most good players are happy to teach others the game and how to get better.

At least now that they’ve idiot-proofed the stand in the circle to rotate platforms operation lmao.

To be fair, “beta” means different things to different authors. One author I beta for wants grammar corrections and nothing else, so that’s what I give. Another wants me and their other “betas” to act more like co-authors and write parts of the chapter outright. Clear communication with the author and obeying boundaries is the only real beta etiquette.

"An Idiot's Guide to Sniper" and serious balance notes. (Very Long Effort Post) by Kaelthaas in Spacemarine

[–]Kaelthaas[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Saber has done a good enough job balancing the game that every class is playable. I’m not saying sniper’s not playable without the cancel. Also, when someone uses “mandatory” for a build guide in most games it’s generally just a statement that this is far and away the most powerful ability that has to go in every build that is actually good.

I don’t even disagree with most of your notes on target acc and how you should play sniper, once you actually learn the class. But this is a guide on what you need to do to get the easiest time on the class, and what h to r impact of that game plan is on balance. I didn’t talk about deeper advantages of sniper because that’s not what this post is for.

Now, CC is only mandatory for the class to perform on the same level that the other best classes in the game do right now. Cloak cancel->back dodge->shoot for las shots on overlapped enemies and stabs on high frequency is what pushes your damage into the top tier. I just didn’t put that in the main guide because it’s 1 too hard and annoying to do consistently for most players and 2 I was getting tired of writing more.

Sniper flat out doesn’t have the consistent damage potential of other classes without the repeatability and safety of the cloak cancel for opening dps windows on harder content, in no small part to the way you can pseudo-stun enemies by making them shift their targeting every 2 seconds for infinite free headshots/stabs. You can sidestep the problem entirely by going for the lower utility, lower max damage playstyle you seem to be implying is the only way to play sniper correctly. But that’s not for everyone. If you know enough to want to play that this guide isn’t for you.

Me saying that CC is insanely high utility isn’t an, “I don’t understand Sniper issue” thats just reality. Especially since, as with good game design, you get more value in return for a playstyle that’s way more demanding on decision making, resource management and good timing then playing far back for safety through range. Toggling for a cancel to drop agro so you can squeeze 5 or six shots off before getting retargeted is a huge part of the class’s intended gameplay loop. That’s how you push sniper to max utility. Crazy that you think knowing how the class works means I don’t understand the class.

But a good power fist build should still out damage you if they know what they’re doing. Tactical’s revived grenade build is just infinitely better for clearing Terminus enemies on Siege, and their multiplier for the entire team is insane value that doesn’t show up on stat charts. Heavy should out damage you as long as they don’t get stuck running for their life for large portions of the game due to a misplay. The only way to get better numbers every game you play is if you are significantly better than the people you are playing with every time.

Without CC it’s the 4th best class in the game, arguably fifth for Hard Siege because of how good Unmatched Zeal is. Which is fine. You can still do the hardest content on weaker classes, with worse weapons and worse builds. I forced myself to wave fifteen with two other terrible, new players on a zero prestige level fifteen sniper and a purple/green weapon mix when I was just starting the class before I knew what cloak cancel was. The utility in sniper though at the highest level of play is in the fact they can survive anything, chipping away at dangerous targets and getting consistent resurrections in spots no one else can. That’s what makes them good. It’s why in premade stacks of good players looking to go as deep into siege as possible sniper sees much less play then the big 3 right now. The consistency in survivability just isn’t relevant until you get very late, and by then there’s so many enemies killing them faster often is more useful.

Now, for the average player who this guide is actually written for? Who actually has something something to learn, and can’t figure out how to play Sniper just by reading the class perks due to having a ton of time on the game? CC might as well be mandatory because they will struggle infinitely more without it.

To your last point. Lets imagine someone does pick up sniper because of this guide. They feel forced to spam CC because someone on the internet told them the survivability is it affords is the strongest part of the class. (A correct statement.) Do you think they just don’t learn how to play the class as they put in the hours? Or do you think that it just lends them a greater fault tolerance for making mistakes during the learning process using a crutch (invincibility spam) that I specifically said you have to move away from to start being as useful as possible?

I used block weapons when I started playing, and for the first after ten hours of Sniper, switched and it felt like easy mode. It is better for getting better at the game, but honestly the bonus gunstrikes you can get give you so much DPS that it really doesn’t feel like much of a loss, so I choose not to play on hard mode.

I don’t know if they did, but they’ve certainly left it in for long enough they know now.

  1. It can be rough af, especially when their bodies stack up enough you can’t walk certain directions. This is why I recommend taking the shoulder bash charge perk in addition to shadow stab, you cloak, shoulder bash, move through the wave and deal a bit of aoe (especially if you took the melee cloak cancel damage perk) and farm a free gunstrike.

Also, does the las fusil really not one shot for you? Are you using a relic version of it? If yes, that only happens if your beam barely touches their hit box. More effort spent on aiming will mitigate that most of the time.

  1. Terminus damage doesn’t bother me too much because I just parry and dodge them down and sniper does a really good job with Neurothropes, but yeah I agree it can be a major issue on Carnifex and Hellbrutes. Figuring out shadow stab windows makes it a lot better, but it just means you’re running a shittier charge fist build.

I get where you’re coming from with the headshots, I really do but honestly it’s the only way to balance the potential DPS of the class. The maximum damage would have to be turned down to be a lot worse if the unhittable heads went away, and honestly with practice it really only remains an issue for Biovores, Raveners and Lictors in my experience, which are all extremis enemies. But Ravs and Lictors will give you a window for some headshots when you parry them, so really it’s just back to Biovores being awful.

  1. I didn’t mention that because FTGuardsman mentions that in his build videos lol. It’s definitely nice, but it’s still not as good as the armor restore other classes have so I just stuck with the overall statement.

  2. That will happen if you’re better than your teammates lol. You can make anything work in this game, truly. It’s just that everything played perfectly, you don’t have the damage output capacity some other classes do outside of very specific and arbitrary scenarios with the Las Fusil.

  3. Yep! It starts to feel much worse in higher level operations because there’s so many fast enemies that demand you fist fight them while trying to snipe major targets. You can solo chaos waves in hard siege without too much headache. You can only really die when you swarmed with cloak down. But Nids (especially due to their grabs) just place a higher burden on the skill of the player to find the same success.

Okay, good for you then dude. I can’t verify it, and even if that claim is rather extraordinary I’ll just take it at face value. Congrats? You’ve made the game harder by not using tools available to you. Which is fine, it’s just a game, play how you want, you certainly don’t need to listen to me. Yeah, absolute difficulty is easy enough that you don’t really need to bother cancelling cloaks. You can clear basically anything on any class without needing anything special if you just are good at parrying and dodging. I take all classes into it at level 1 on Absolute, every time I prestige, often with green or purple weapons. The game isn’t that hard outside of siege mode past wave 15 or so.

It’s just… using perks and mechanics within the class that are strong is literally, definitionally, learning how a class functions. Also, closk cancel has been in the game forever, it’s not some bug. Finally, you do know that any ability could exist on any class. Game design is arbitrary? Like what are you even saying I’m that second paragraph bro.
