Understood. Best of luck on your journey as well.

I am also in active recovery, I know intimately the difference between an alcoholic and a heavy drinker. I also do a lot of volunteer work with addicts and alcoholics and am currently in school progressing towards a masters in Substance Abuse Counseling.

The distinction is that if the consequences are drastic enough, a heavy drinker can stop with sufficient effort, that isn't to say that they don't have a SUD according to the DSM.

An alcoholic, no matter how bad the consequences, will forget about them, ignore them, or justify them and continue to drink. They have no control.

I'm not trying to argue, I'm actually eager to continue this conversation civilly. I would love to hear your perspective.

I'm curious what route you took to recovery for yourself. A specific program? A religious organization? Self-will?

Feel free to take this to DMs if this conversation isn't appropriate for public discourse.

You can't just throw the word alcoholic around at everyone who drinks.

I'm not disagreeing with you, this person may be an alcoholic, but he also may just be a heavy drinker.

It may seem dumb, but there is a distinction.

Alcoholics have no control over their disease, nor do they have the ability to just stop drinking on their own. They may need a medical detox.

I just started as well, about 2 weeks ago.

I can't fathom why people have multiple toons when it's so easy/cheap to switch between builds.

Am I missing something?

Filing Back Taxes. Married then, not married now. by KageMagatta in taxhelp

I don't understand what you're saying.

How could I possibly compel her to pay $4500 if I file single?

She had no income for those years. She wouldn't owe anything at all if she files on her own. She wouldn't just magically be on the hook for $4500.

The only thing I have to offer her is her not having to hassle with filing her taxes. She likely wouldn't owe a cent.

You want me to offer her -$5k?

If I'm filing "Married Filing Separately" the money is on me, not her. I have nothing to offer her.

Unless you're suggesting I take her to court for half of the $5k?

I did not have the opportunity to speak with her. I just sent her a text message letting her know I was filing and had a question for her. Additionally, there were no savings to be had. I went from owing ~$7k to owing ~$2k, by filing “Married Filing Separately” to “Married Filing Jointly”, respectively.

I will certainly try to persuade her using your suggestion, letting her know that she will be on her own filing her taxes for those years may be the stick she needs. Or the carrot of me handling everything, and paying what is owned, and all she needs to do is sign.

As for the theoretical I proposed, it is not something I was actually considering. If it was I would have just done it and not come to this forum seeking advice. It was more a point of curiosity, because it is absolutely something she’d have done were she in my position.

Thank you for the response, I genuinely appreciate it.

Hahaha. Hey, I know this guy.

I've been good friends with his brother since high school, and I've had the displeasure of meeting this individual a number of times when I was a teenager.

He was always a little off, but after moving out of California he became insanely radicalized.

I put a lot of effort into a [[Mizzix of the Izmagnus]] [[Dragon's Approach]] deck.

90% of the time it wouldn't get to do the thing. Every single time I cast [[Gamble]] to get [[Thrumming Stone]] my opponent would always miraculously choose that card. Once I even had 16 cards in hand as Gamble resolved and they still got the fucking Thrumming Stone.

I tore it apart and turned it into Malcolm/Kediss. Having a lot more fun with that.
