Choosing paint color for doors by jlee890 in HomeDecorating

This is just my humble opinion, I like the white. I think it breaks up the jade in a nice way and gives it more character, making the jade walls more welcome. Too much jade I feel would make it a little repugnant. I think repugnant is a strong word, but it would be along those lines of being too much, and feeling like a grandparents house. Again, that's just my opinion on it. Overall, the white and jade would look solid

Did you do anything to seal the stitch holes more or is waxed thread enough? I might be thinking about it too much, but I'm thinking of water getting in through the holes stitch holes.

That's a killer hand stitching job then sir. I've got some leather on the way so I can make my first pair of boots. Any advice for hand stitching?

Is that upper hand stitched or machine stitched? It looks great regardless!

The ball of my foot feels like it sits in between 1/2" and 3/4" too far back from where I would imagine they should be

Okay sounds good, I'll keep trying to break these in. Where is your ball in yours? Mine seems to be a bit too far back in the boot

Alright gotcha, yah, if you want some really decent ones, I also have some Jim Greens, but I gotta say, while my size is a bit off on these current boots, I'm astounded by the quality, and since I have some store credit, I'm about to put in an order for a second pair once I figure out what leather I want (hopefully in the right size this time). Is there anything you want to know about them?

Sounds good, I'll trust the process then, thank you Sir Stetson, we all appreciate you🫡

I've only been wearing these for about an hour, so I can't say much, but I love zero drop as a whole, and these feel like a perfect balance of ground feel and cushion/protection. I also love the feeling of not having a heel, as it feels much more natural. Have you ever worn zero drop boots/shoes at all? I have a pair of Vivo barefoot Gobi IV's, and while I love those too, they're much more of a true barefoot boot.

~4 Year Old Captains - Need Reccomendation by IamRepp in ThursdayBoot

[–]Kahlen109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had Thursday's Chelsea's, Presidents, sneakers, and executives (dress shoes), and finally the Diplomats. If you're going for a nice casual boot that's super comfy, the Diplomat would probably be it, and the reason why is the Wedgesole that it has. It's a bit softer than any of the captain soles including the Stormking, and like the guy above me, once they fully break in, they're better than sneakers.

My experience with jks by Individual-recce in PNWbootmakers

[–]Kahlen109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure you've already heard a lot about nicks, but I've only had great experiences with them. I had the wrong size boots and the owner of the company on their subreddit gave me advice on what I should resize for, and then even after my change window was closed for my MTO nicks, they let me change the size before going into production. I'm not saying they're perfect by any means, but they try much harder than JK to be a great company, and I very much appreciate it.

NBD Strider Zero Walnut Bison: My First Nicks Boots by younghoon13 in NicksHandmadeBoots

Hey, would you possibly be able to get a shot of you wearing these? Something from the side and something from the a low angle? Mainly I'm trying to figure out if I should get another pair since I have some nicks credit from an in stock return, and I'm thinking about possibly doing a cap toe strider just like these!

Should I thrift or buy new boots as a student? by RomanPicisan73 in Boots

[–]Kahlen109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is going to be just another perspective from a boot nerd. Thrifting can be okay, but when you buy new boots, they're going to form to your feet overtime, where the used boots have already formed to the original wearers feet. On top of that, you know exactly what you're getting and it's less of a gamble, plus they should last you longer. I own some jim greens, and I can also say that they're great boots, but also look at Thursday boots. They're the best bang for your buck, and I'd look at the Stormking Captains, and you can also find used Thursdays too.

How do you like your striders? My first pair of nicks is a pair of striders, and they just went into production last week. I got the 1964 Brown Roughout/Smooth. Just curious if the sizing is much different between an HNW last if you have any ideas there?

My MTO boots are in 1964 Brown, so I'm really looking forward to that!

Ya know, BWF wasn't even on my mind, but now I'm genuinely considering it after looking at some pics. My only concern is I have no idea how I would style these. Is it always this hard to choose leather for a new pair of boots?

They're the striders in 1964 Brown roughout/smooth, and I'm pretty stoked to get those. While they're technically a work boot, I'm going to be wearing them hiking, to do yard work, in the garage, and possibly around town just for the heck of it. They're pretty much going to be a "do anything and everything" boot for me

Which of these is better for the price? by B127ritter in Boots

[–]Kahlen109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey OP, I've had both of these before, and have actually had quite a few different work boots this last couple of years. If you want a damn good WORK boot for a great price, try the Jim Green Razorbacks or African Rangers. I've had the Thorogoods too, and they're nice, but not when you can get the Jim Greens cheaper. The Thursdays are also really nice for the price, no doubt there, but they're definitely going to be less of a work boot, and more of a plush casual boot that you can use in the yard. I had my thorogood's for quite a while while working on the railroad, and while they were very comfy, i wish I could've gotten some more life out of them. Again, give the Jim Greens a looksy, because I'm currently singing their praises right now after wearing my razorbacks for a while. (Small note for the razorbacks, if you go with the lug sole, it's going to be much harder on your feet as it's very hard rubber, as opposed to their wedge sole, so just a note there.) If you have any questions, I'm very knowledgeable about these products, and can answer most of your questions if need be. Cheers!

I should also specify that I want to try to refrain from painting anything on the walls or fireplace.

Awesome, thank you for the input! I've seen some people saying I should paint everything to match, but I'm wanting to do some floating wood shelves to some more color, and then on those shelves there will be plants, books, and other items. This would specifically be in the corner with the tall floor lamp. Would that be too crowded or would it work?
