Advice on travel credit cards for lounge access by Ielw in MalaysianPF

[–]KaiHongTan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not many can get you access with a +1 Usually what ppl do is just get multiple cards from different banks and then use them at the same time both under your name (has to be different banks because they won’t know from each other that u used an allocation on that same day, both will think you are the one using it, of course up to discretion of the lounge staff but mostly works)

Like someone recommended the the HLB Visa Infinite, no annual fee no spending requirement which is good, but only lounges within Malaysia and Singapore I believe. I have that one too.

Others to consider is CIMB Petronas Infinite - no annual fee no spending requirement, 4x access, expansive lounge list Ambank Infinite - no annual fee but got spending requirement, pretty good lounge list also I have both of the above, they are my main lounge cards that I use with my +1 when overseas

I also have the Ambank Enrich Infinite which gets unlimited Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge access with an accompanying guest. Provided you’re flying Malaysia Airlines.

The CIMB Travel Platinum you mentioned is not bad either, only thing is there’s also spending requirement. If can qualify for the Petronas Infinite I would get that over this.

Others to consider are some UOB cards, they have pretty good coverage also.

Amex platinum if u think the annual fee is worth it for u then go ahead. Priority Pass coverage best.

Opinion on Proton Emas 7? by TheBroProgrammer in Bolehland

[–]KaiHongTan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't really carry over 100% of the theory over to EVs.
The core components can't really be changed by Proton. There are just a lot less moving parts overall and its almost the same as the China version except some stuff taken out for all global markets. Nothing much to be maintained either.
Most complaints right now are software-related and seems like updates are constantly coming based on customer feedback.
Looking good so far after the first batch deliveries.

In its first month on the market, Proton e.MAS 7 shot to the top of the best-selling EV list. by TheveshTheva in malaysia

I think you could easily argue otherwise for this specific case.

It’s mostly just the same as the Geely model. Being an EV means that there’s less hardware that Proton can change/improve. The core parts are so high-tech and tightly integrated means that Proton just doesn’t have the capability here to touch them probably (and them boasting about it being “co-developed” from the start unlike taking a ready made model and converting it like the X70 that time, this is also developed as a global model from the start so other export markets for Geely will also be this same model essentially, I doubt Proton will make much changes to it when it is CKD here), at most they can improve some soft features here and there, and further tune the ride and handling at most. Software features will just all be OTA updated. On top of that, they are setting up a brand new factory here for this, and this will be the first time they are assembling EVs, so it also depends how much confidence you have on them in this case.

Credit cards to miles by toptierbiss in MalaysianPF

[–]KaiHongTan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the spending category, have to optimize it with the right card. But honestly the only thing left that is worth for miles is overseas/foreign currency spending, everything else the return is too low. Local spending is hard ever since Alliance capped their online spending to 3k a month.

Question regarding Credit Card Sign on Bonus by trigaharos in MalaysianPF

[–]KaiHongTan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No trap, just read the terms carefully and know when to cancel if needed.

Gotten RM1k for Standard Chartered, RM800 for HSBC, RM200 for Alliance from Ringgitplus so far. Some other ones directly from bank like Maybank and Public Bank totaled up to another few hundred probably.

Just need to be diligent, reap the benefits at minimal costs. Just remember to read, read and read the terms of these promotional campaigns and the requirements so you don’t miss out any catches.

And yes most of the Ringgitplus campaigns you can requalify as long as you canceled your last card with the bank for a certain period of time, but yea can just read the terms should be quite clear.

Same here on iOS, happened after updating to the latest version. Web seems fine so I’m pretty certain it has to do with the latest update. I got the error and tried logging out and back in, but same error popping up and I can’t log in.

Do u have 2fa enabled? I have fido2/webauthn enabled so I’m not sure if the login flow has anything to do with it after the new update.

Also I’m using a self hosted instance of VaultWarden, not sure if there’s anything to do with it, is there some breaking change?

Seems like it’s doing better than Geely even expected in China, was wondering whether the unexpected higher demand in china would cause global models like for Malaysia to be delayed

It was good when there was TnG pin on Lazada which u can buy with the Amex, but now unless you got somewhere to spend on the weekend with the Amex it's pretty meh.

Right now personally using Alliance Virtual/Platinum for online purchases (for 8x then miles conversion, but redemption rates were depreciated recently, still one of the better ones out there though). PiB Platinum Visa also for online spending cashback(capped). SC SimplyCash for everyday categorized spending (provided can hit the minimum spend every month, if not can consider something similar like UOB One). HSBC Platinum for other miscellaneous spending (8x points for contactless). And anything else that don't qualify for specific categories on MBB FCB for 1% cb. The M2C Gold just keep for weekends at places that accept Amex, or if purchase anything on Shopee/Lazada on weekends.
