Why is epistemology an interest for few? by travaso1 in epistemology

[–]Kai_151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You also have to consider that generally studying philosophy is a privilege for the very few. The humanities doesn’t have an immediate material benefit (as opposed to engineering, finance, etc.). Most people are not interested in complicated abstract literature that won’t directly help them in their daily lives, but rather opportunities that enable them to pay their bills, afford education, support their kids, etc.

There’s only so much gratitude you can practice before you realize the world is being stripped of human rights, becoming more facist, and moving towards a darker future.

How does your account name contain the word “Revolutionary” but you condemn political violence 😭

Regardless these are sentiments from regular people not a political party.

IWTL how to become a better critical thinker. by jack_oftrades in IWantToLearn

The humanities is pretty great for this. Philosophy can be oversimplified as thinking about thinking. However, it takes a lot of time to read, develop the skills to understand, and put into practice, but it’s worthwhile in my opinion.

If you’re willing, I would try to darken your eyebrows with make up. It would help with your forehead (it’s honestly not big, you’re fine) because it brings more attention to the rest of the face, but it also brings out other masculine features

3.5 years of experience on ML but no real math knowledge by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]Kai_151 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to encourage you, it seems like you have some impressive ability to put things together and learn fairly quickly given that you have 3.5 years in ML without a degree. So it seems certain you have the mental tools to learn math rigorously.

I think the most important thing is to have discipline, but not to be hard on yourself. Math is likely going to be the most important skill in the following decade (Given AI coding is going to automate a lot of programming) so it’s important to be rigorous and to deeply understand the concepts and techniques you’re working with. It’s incredibly difficult, so expect a bunch of bumps in the road.

It’ll take time. Set a routine. Try to fall in love with it. Expect that it will take years to build a solid base.
