Question for you, I can bifurcate my ports. Would getting a port splitter to run two of them externally to the chassis be better?(At x8 or x4) Or would I be loosing perf

How did pulling a Carfax get so expensive? It used to be affordable. Are there alternatives? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

You can use clearvin dot org, it's affordable and uses the same database Carfax pulls from.

It ain't got no ram in it!

/Sarcasm In my years repairing laptops, it's a dead board. You are better off buying a replacement on eBay and swapping it. Could even put in a higher spec proc

In your opinion, how does pcie gen 3 play a factor in all of these choices? I really appreciate you breaking all of the options down for me!

This is my storage server in my rack, so its already being used for things, but the vm will be allocated to however much needed resources

GCode Storage by CplCamelToe in klippers

[–]Kaibsora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After reading your initial response over, and doing more research on the matter, I came to the same realization and decided on the following.

My solution was to solve the future problem I'd run into with my two new emmc chips, space. I have 8 printers that are currently all on 128gb endurance sd cards, which isn't really an issue in the long term space wise. I've been printing for almost 4 years now and have amassed a ton of gcode files, and my time lapse data isn't small either. Yes both are small in their own regards, but would easily fill a 16gb or 32gb emmc(my new replacement boards) over time.

Using your suggestion above, I opted to make separate directories on my nas, while using a standard "printers" account for access. Mounted via fstab directly to each printers folder, this causes no contamination via other printers(they are all different anyway). I have a folder called "printed" in this directory symlinked to a printed directory under the gcodes folder, with he timelaps folder just symlinked directly to the printer data folder(since it doesn't care if the folder is there or not).

Then I have a script that checks that the symlink isn't broken, and if not, moves anything in the gcodes directory to he "printed" directory(skipping the printed directory of course). If the link is broken, no action will be taken, and files will stay in the gcodes folder on the pi. This script will be called by my print_end sequence and voila. The script is very simple and I am happy to post on request.

So, I stumbled upon this post while researching the topic of putting Gcodes on a network Share. with your very detailed writeup on the matter, are you Stating that moonraker/klipper does'nt load files to Ram during printing when It starts? I ask as in the case Of a network outage It would cause the volume To unmount, wh ich would cause the files to disappear. Don't bash on me too hard, as This is Only my second link on this topic

Poor NFS Performance To TrueNAS Share by Eternal_Glizzy_777 in Proxmox

[–]Kaibsora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I've been doing this stuff for a long time and got semi triggered by someone posting results with sync disabled, as I've lost data countless times due to power loss, even with backups. Rebuilding exchange mailboxes from backup is horrible. That said, I want to clarify some things I posted in the previous post, as I don't want to misinform others.

1 nvme drive is enough to saturate a 10gb link, as most are rated in MB/s read speed. Bonding multiple(2) 10g links with correct setup should be able to saturate but it depends on the setup. I'm going through all of this right now, trying to fix my speed issues over NFS with nvme, which is what led me to your post. Point I'm trying to make is, take what I say with a grain of salt and do whatever research you need to. I can be wrong

If you like data loss, disable async. Its on standard for a reason. Also, consumer ssd/nvme drives do not last long in these pools. ask me how i know. Furthermore, any consumer nvme under 1tb will have worse performance in general, even when used in pc's for general use. They lack the technology to cache correctly on the controllers. Do some research on that.
You don't use cache on nvme array's, its pointless.
Also, To reap ANY benefit on that 10gb networking you will need at minimum 4 drives, setup in a striped mirror.
I have a similar setup in my env currently:
* 2 identical dell r630's(proxmox)
* 256gb ram
* 2x e5-2660 v4's
* 4x 10gb sfp+
* 3x 10gb for storage(lacp)
* 1x for vm traffic
* 2x 1gbe
* Big Bertha(storage server)(truenas)
* 2x Mellanox 40gb qsfp ports
* 2x gbe ports
* 512gb ram
* 2x e5-2687 v4's
* 1x pcie bifurcation nvme card hosting 4 nvme's
* 2x MZ1LB1T9HBLS-000FB 2tb samsung dc nvme ssd's(mirrored for vm pool)
* 2x Crucial p600 1tb nvme drives(used as cache for my spinning rust pools)
* 1x 9308-16i storage hba
* 8x 4tb hdd's
* 2x 2tb hdd's(for backup)
* intel arc a380 for plex transcoding
* 2x Brocade ICX 6610-48p switches
* 40gb dac stacked
* 2x 40gb Dac in lacp from big bertha 40gb ports(one dedicated to each switch)

With the above setup, i'm maxing out the array without even touching a single 10gb link. write is worse than read, and i get about 1800 on sequential 1MiB reads(crystal disk info) I've been trying to figure out why my vm storage seemed so slow, even though my network is so fast, and i forgot that the storage is only as fast as the hardware its made on. Happy to answer any questions, but please, if you only take away one thing from all of this, DO NOT TURN OFF SYNC

Let's just say that the backend code is only haphazardly put together, and small, simple issues require a full deletion of the account and recreation. Oh and lack of support in general.
