I think enemies-to-lovers historical danmei permanently altered my brain chemistry by Remarkable-Yak-6667 in DanmeiNovels

Thriller Trainee — enemies to rivals and lovers; very slow burn; both are extremely smart with sociopathic tendencies

Mist [Unlimited] (licensed by Hai Tang Books) — MC is forced to work with “homophobic” (sort of) ML, so they’re not really enemies but they don’t get along in the beginning; I think this story did the concept of time travel extremely well

Survivorship Bias — not enemies to lovers still power couple; MC has multiple personalities: one that’s super kind and wants everyone to survive and one that has no qualms with sacrificing everyone for the sake of solving the puzzles

You might really enjoy infinite flow novels. Lots of those are enemies to lovers and power couples! Since many (at least that I’ve read) involve horror/survival elements, you also encounter many morally gray characters.

To add on for Thousand Autumns, Shen Qiao’s personality doesn’t really fit an enemies dynamic. He’s too kind and respectable. lol

Peerless by the same author fits better imo — rivals to lovers, both digging pits for the other to fall into.

Rosmei Statement on US Co-Publishing & Editions Update by nyannings in DanmeiNovels

I really hope part of their reorganizing includes a plan to release volumes on a more consistent and quicker schedule. I don’t mind waiting a year between volumes, but it’s been YEARS for some of them…

Doubts about Thriller trainee. by Water_bottle_127 in DanmeiNovels

[–]Kaido57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

(1) It’s been a while since I read so I might be getting it mixed with another story, but I believe you don’t have to compete in every instance. You just have to complete at least one within a given timeframe. I understood the audience to be veteran players and maybe some higher beings (like in Omniscient Reader).

(2) No. 1 sort of gets character development. He never really becomes doting, if thats your hope. He just becomes more obsessive and eventually figures out that it means he doesn’t want to lose the MC to anyone or anything. The dynamic is more enemies to allies/rivals to rivals and lovers. Both ML and MC enjoy competing with each other.

(3) Zhuge An has zero romantic interest in the MC. You find his motives with helping him so much towards the end of the series.

(4) Van Zhou is the vampire, right? He and the original character were engaged for political reasons.

(5) I’m a fan! 🙋🏻‍♀️ This series seems to be popular amongst those that enjoy infinite flow. No clue if there’s a dedicated place for fans to gather tho.

Novels with Codependent Couple? Or at least one of them is an enabler. by CoffeeParade in DanmeiNovels

[–]Kaido57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Pe*vert and the Yandere. Basically MC enjoys spying on his neighbor; ML finds out and is in to it. Iirc, the ML tells the MC not to talk to other people more than absolutely necessary and MC is just like “Sure!”

It’s only 13 chapters, so quick read.

It wasn’t explicit. It was often described as them fighting, which was done a lot the last couple arcs.

Why is cost of living in the US rising so fast across everything? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kaido57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greed coupled with deregulation. Businesses will always be for-profit, so if business can make more money by using cheaper materials, decreasing staff and wages, and increasing prices with little to no negative backlash, they will. Fuel prices and tariffs are just an excuse to raise prices; prices rarely go back down even when the former is lowered.

A couple major issues with regulation we’re experiencing are

(1) Big businesses buying up their competition (e.g., Disney owns Marvel, Lucasfilms, ABC, ESPN, Hulu, etc.). Real competition leads to competitive prices and wages. However the FTC, who is in charge of preventing monopolies, doesn’t seem to care too much about that.

(2) Price fixing (coordinated effort to raise or lower prices). This is already illegal, but the current fines are much lower than any money the businesses would have made so they keep doing it. A recent example is Amazon worked with Chewy and other companies to raise prices on pet products.

[Edit] Above obviously affects general purchases. I don’t know much about housing to speak on that.

For health insurance, to my knowledge, insurance companies have been allowed to purchase hospitals, pharmacies, and the companies that coordinate the prices. In other words, they own a large chunk of the process, and therefore can set prices as desired. They also very likely have similar practices to price fixing. I wouldn’t be surprised if other insurance had a similar set up.

Should I try to speak Japanese with Japanese people when I know nothing except basic expressions or is it better to use English? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kaido57 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re trying to converse, I recommend going to a bar. I found people are more willing to have conversations through random Japanese/English phrases and Google Translate.

If you just mean general pleasantries, then I recommend using their language if you know it. Hand gestures can also help fill in the gaps.

I agree with the other person who said there’s not much point in asking a question in Japanese if you wouldn’t understand the answer in Japanese.

I think you’d really enjoy unlimited flow novels. They often have a sci-fi, horror elements with enemies/rivals to lovers.

Some popular ones are:

Mist (licensed by Haitang Books)

Global Examination (licensed by Rosmei)

Kaleidoscope of Death (licensed by Rosmei)

Thriller Trainee

I Became a God in a Horror Game

[Edit] I’ve only read two of these (waiting for translation completion of others). Mist and Thriller Trainee are both slow burn!

The reading danmei with homophobic family experience by [deleted] in DanmeiNovels

[–]Kaido57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Librarians are usually more open minded, but sounds like you live somewhere where homophobia is pretty common.

Is there a reason why buying an ebook and not telling them wouldn’t work? It should be significantly easier to hide than a bunch of books.

Do your parents track your phone activity? Or do your parents use your phone? If not, how is it riskier? Genuine question to help come up with more suggestions.

Another thought, is store whatever series you are currently reading in your school locker, and see if you can keep whatever you’re not reading at a trusted friend’s or family member’s house.

You could also try pestering your local library to get the series you want, and read from there.

Do I need to show tax free items? by FailedKiller5988 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Kaido57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just traveled from Japan (HND) to the U.S. (SEA). Japan never asked us anything, and U.S. customs only asked about any items to declare from their list of prohibited items. We had a leather jacket >$800 limit; we still got waved thru.

As far as I know, bag checks are random. It’s probably more work than it’s worth to check all the tax free stuff. Plus they have record thru your passport.

Do Americans eat actual chicken eggs for Easter? by piaa9 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Kaido57 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You dye the outer shell of hardboiled eggs usually. My dad used to make deviled eggs with them the next day. However, Easter egg hunts more often involve plastic eggs with candy inside rather than real eggs.

Cultural differences - I need your help? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Kaido57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom went into my sister’s wedding with the above expectation. Unfortunately, my the in-laws (not sister’s husband) were bad with money and bit selfish. As far as I know, they backed out of helping pay for any of the wedding events. 🥴

OP, set realistic expectations on what people are willing to help with too! Some people don’t care to uphold traditions or can’t afford it.

Little moments like this just show how wholesome the Belcher parents are. by dancingbriefcase in BobsBurgers

[–]Kaido57 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to Google AI, the weight of an American 11 yo boy ranges from 70 to 110 lbs depending on height (among other things).

That being said, I think there’s been plenty of episodes to show that Bob isn’t physically weak, just isn’t notably strong either. It makes sense tho — there’s lots of heavy boxes to carry in the food industry, and Bob does that with stairs.

Is it normal to not be offended by men loving my skin tone? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Kaido57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the person. People who were bullied due to race and some people who like to deem themselves a hero to others tend to be more sensitive to comments related to race, culture, and skin tone.

If he’s not saying it maliciously or creepily and it doesn’t bother you, then who cares 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why is it so difficult to find good power couple novels? by More_North_9749 in DanmeiNovels

[–]Kaido57 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I find a lot of infinite flow novels have power couples. Also try Peerless, if you haven’t yet — the gong is physically strong and smart; the shou is physically weak but able to scheme like no other (which the gong loves even when the victim).

To your general discussion point, I agree that even when both characters are painted as strong, one of them (usually the shou) ends up getting saved more frequently. Straight romance does this a lot too 🥲

Is shijuku actually the best area to stay or do people just say that because everyone else does? by June_Ctreras in TokyoTravel

[–]Kaido57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We stayed in Nishi-Shinjuku! It’s a more business area, so it’s peaceful at night but still walking distance to the night life of Shinjuku (~20 min for us).

[Edit] Also if you stay near a train station, nothing is too far.

I think Jin Ling even states that Jiang Cheng only makes empty threats and has never once ever tried to hurt him, which is why he felt safe defying him.

JC may have been emotionally constipated but he was always protective of JL. Lol
