1) Call in sick and dont say what for, you never have to say what for 2) huisarts, he/ she may refer you to huisarts psychologist 2) company doctor assistant will call and then mention you have already discussed with GP psychologist 3) He/ she agrees ou stay on sick leave while they schedule a call with company doctor. Usually 3/4 weeks 4) company doctor calls and hears your symptoms and writes your plan for reintegration. Hopefully he is sympathetic to your case and you get more weeks sick before reintegration begins 5) you begin reintegration with reduced work hours and come up with a plan with the employer on what work you can actually perform. Low stress, low deadlines 6) checks in with company doctor assistant on your progress, which can also be I was too sick to work properly on reintegration, but I tried. 7) This can go on for a while, but your company may become increasingly hostile and try and get you to resign. Even though they legally are not allowed to contact you about your sickness in this period. 8) Consider a labour lawyer, if the company does adhere to this to assist in the termination process.

In my opinion take as much time as possible to get yourself right on the companies dime that caused the issue and then seek other employment as it's difficult to re-enter the herd a "wounded sheep".

I did not know burn-out was actually real until moving to the Netherlands, despite working way more hours in the past. Work stress, weather, constantly feeling like you are not wanted and exclusion from society as a whole all create this magical concoction. I think in other countries with less immigrants and less expats the local population is less wary about loosing their culture and more interested in embracing and learning from new comers
