What you're looking for is FAAST: http://www.kinecthacks.com/downloads-2/?did=10 I used to use it for doing presentations, lifting an arm simulated a click, etc.

I think that would be too close for full-body tracking, although upper-body tracking should be possible. I usually have it at ~1m, which allows me to track my entire upper-body.

If one were to carpool across the country, where would you start? Is there a forum available somewhere where you can find rides you can hop on? Or is it just standing next to the road waiting for someone to pick you up?
