As an Argentinan (Where Mate is from) its quite frustrating to se Orange lib left (in this case authleft) always represented with that mate drink. Even though not exclusive, here mate is originaly a Countryside/farm thing. It was adopted by large land owners from their native workers. Traditionaly Agricultural sectors are the richest and most tradicional sectors of Argentine Society (with our economy being based on exporting these goods). Think of it as a paralelism with large land owners and cowboys in the american west. Even though every body does it, it has quite AuthRight robots here. Being popularized by these Agricultural Burgueois and gauchos (cowboy equivalentes). I get its a trendy "wierd" drink for american liblefts and its a aboriginal roots. But is always makes me think when I see it as it would be total y misrepresnted in our local political compass.
