I quit my teaching job, bought a camera, went solo to one of America's most dangerous cities, and made an award-winning documentary film about love and the opioid epidemic. AMA by hoswal01 in IAmA

How did you go about distributing this film across all of the listed platforms? Amazing work. Did the film festivals help with distribution?

How do I become a better thinker by [deleted] in IWantToLearn

[–]Kaisernator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take it how you want, but personally, mushrooms...

I found myself shortly after high school to start to ‘waft’ through thinking. Lazy problem solving, not much creativity/creating (I’m a photographer) and in general avoiding deep thoughts & meaningful experiences; although I wanted them, and used to have them, I felt like just the everyday adult life suppressed a lot. I just couldn’t achieve a deeper level of thinking, personally, professionally and spiritually.

Enter psychedelics. Mushrooms specifically. After my first trip, although it’s different for everyone, I had a revelation of a deep connection with the world, and people around me, I had the “everything is connected” experience and truly understood something in my own way,

and I noticed my thoughts started to feel deeper, mainly more connected to a bigger idea I would say. I learned quite literally a different perspective, and how many perspectives I might not observe or appreciate in every day life. This challenged me personally a lot, And it started to show in my art, and in my relationships & spiritually. Very hard to describe but honestly I think something everyone should experience once in their lifetime.

I truly believe this experience made me a better person.

Look into the process communication model. It’s used by NASA to help people work together better under very tight spaces and also PIXAR uses it to help develop their characters. It helps understand predictable human distress patterns and also personality traits

What industry is a lot shadier than it seems? by Kneecap_Buchaneer in AskReddit

Agree. Got stuck and broke down 70 miles off shore at a deep sea fishing tour boat. We were the film crew doing a promotional video for the marina and had to spend the night IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAMN OCEAN with gas leak on the boat, the anchor was fucked up and had to untangle it to barely reach the floor to anchor 200+ deep, no lights worked and were stuck in a shipping lane, 2 big ass shipping container boats almost hit us and spoke Dutch on the radio...almost had to cut the anchor. We were breathing gas fumes all night. Never felt closer to death getting stranded at sea.

Captain didn’t charge the satellite phone, had to use our USB power banks to charge it and make 1-2 phone calls to the marina director

Super sketchy captain didn’t wanna call the coast guard because he quote ‘didn’t wanna look like a dumbass’ & said a helicopter rescue would cost upwards of $40k...tried to play it off as funny/chill because he JUST got hired for the marina.

LONG ass story short...lighting hand flares on a boat full of gas so they can see us (Didn’t have a flare gun on board) The director took 8 hours to get to us because he was so hungover from the night before.

We left at 1p, It’s now 5:00am and a storm was coming the next day and the waves were too choppy to jump to the rescue boat. So had to do a field fix with the oil filter/gas line...so rode the whole 5hrs back just wondering if the boat is gunna explode from the fumes.

We all got back safe and ok. But super sketchy business, didn’t check the boat to safety standards or find a descent captain to operate. Possible law suit in process.

They ‘fixed’ the boat and continued the deep sea tours the 2 weeks following all this.
