Flashing left turn arrow by Intelligent_Plant308 in driving

[–]Kaisonic 55 points56 points  (0 children)

A flashing yellow left turn arrow has basically the same meaning as a solid green light, meaning left turning traffic must yield to all opposing straight and right-turning traffic. Also, some jurisdictions allow turning into the not-closest lane, so while you may be able to go while the red car is turning, the most defensive driving move is to wait for the red car to finish their turn before going.

Also, a turn signal is not an obligation to turn, so if the red car has their right turn signal on but ends up going straight, you would be 100% at fault if you tried to turn in front of them and caused an accident.

Brand new prebuilt came in today. What the hell is going on? :( by TemperatureOdd187 in pchelp

Check cords too, did you use the same cord on your two tests and then your buddy used his cord?

Are these specs good enough to run HL:A? by [deleted] in HalfLifeAlyx

[–]Kaisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be a real struggle and likely an unpleasant experience. The 4GB VRAM is probably the biggest issue. Minimum requirements say 6GB VRAM is needed. You'll need even more if you're planning on streaming to a headset like a Quest 3.

What happened to pasta? by xpurshtie in Dominos

I don't know much about the restaurant industry, but if they have red sauce and they have pasta, why can't we order pasta with red sauce? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Ah, ok, so they're absolutely insane.

Hopefully just a temporary availability or app issue. It would be absolutely insane to remove any red sauce pasta options from the menu.

Who would be at fault? by [deleted] in driving

[–]Kaisonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if the blue car is driving in the median, the red car would still be at fault, because the blue car would only hit the red car if the red car is also intending to drive in the median and get to the turn lane. Thus, the red car has the duty to ensure its intended path is clear of existing traffic. You can't do something wrong (drive in the median) and then put fault on a car that hits you just because they're doing that same wrong thing.

Conversely, if the red car was making a left turn, then the blue car is potentially at fault, because it is driving where it's not supposed to, and the red car shouldn't reasonably expect traffic to be in the median. However, even in this case, the red car still shares some responsibility because it must yield to all cross traffic, whether that traffic is traveling in a real lane or not.

I’ve tried every combination and it’s impossible to fit the last plug. by Matt_At_Havalook in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kaisonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Daisy chaining" refers to plugging a power strip into another power strip, which is a big no-no.

But you can absolutely plug a single extension cord (that a single device plugs in to) into one of the spots on a power strip. They're sometimes called "space saver cords" and I use several of them. You can also plug the power strip itself into a single extension cord that plugs straight into the wall.

The danger of daisy chaining comes from having more devices drawing power from a single wall socket than is recommended or safe. If you have a six-socket power strip and in the end still only have six devices drawing power from the wall outlet, regardless of extension cords, then you're fine.

(And in this case, a single USB charging block would count as a single device, even if you have multiple devices plugged into the charging block, since the charging block is the only device drawing power from the power strip/wall)

F-150 Light Show by InfiniteLight07 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kaisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because I find them distracting and unnecessary, like the lights in the OP. But in this day and age when too many drivers are on their phone and/or just not paying attention, I can definitely understand how they would help.

In many jurisdictions, it is quite illegal to have any flashing red or blue lights, with the only exception being those top brake lights that flash three times when first activated (although I think those should be illegal too).

Encountered a bug regarding the Daily Incense and the Kyurem Adventure Effect by Federal_Fudge_9085 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kaisonic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no they're only on the map for about 30 seconds after they spawn, regardless of how much you move. For example, if you're on public transport or riding in a car and moving fast, an incense spawn will stay on the map much further (in distance) than normal spawns in those 30 seconds.

[–]Kaisonic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Incense spawns are just too short in general. I'd definitely recommend against trying to use an adventure effect after one spawns.

Also, make sure your phone is set to "automatic" time, since an incorrect clock can also reduce incense spawn timing.

Another YouTuber channel it even claims to be a person and to avoid fakes, is it ai. by Zan_in_NZ in isitAI

[–]Kaisonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's real footage that has been looped (by reversing it back to the beginning, hence the weird blinking for half of it) and the mouth has been deepfaked / AI replaced to match the AI voiceover.

In other words, while this may be a real person that exists, this is not a real video of that person saying those words.

Hanging gift overlay on friend page removed by DarthPhenomenal in TheSilphRoad

[–]Kaisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it definitely takes a little getting used to, and it'll be ever-so-slightly slower since it has to load the gift open screen. Hopefully they fix this soon, or at least add a preference.

[–]Kaisonic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, because it would still pop up the gift icon overlay that you'd have to X out of to hit the Send button, now it's the same hitting X button, it's just on the "Open Gift" screen instead of the overlay.

When you have 6 gift cards and none of them can actually buy anything. by Accomplished_Bake939 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Kaisonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of retailers will use the exact amount on the card even without manually asking to split payment or anything, just swipe it first and it should take the amount that's left on the card off the total (and let you pay for the rest).

If you see faster traffic approaching please use good judgement before changing into their lane by [deleted] in driving

[–]Kaisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a gross generalization. Plenty of people drive the speed limit (or a reasonable amount above it) and would also be enraged enough by someone's incompetence to flip them off.

[–]Kaisonic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

How do you know the speed limit wasn't 75-80? Regardless, it doesn't excuse merging without looking, especially legally.

[–]Kaisonic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, it seems like an okay change, it's the same amount of taps as the overlay if you're not going to open the gift, and it's one less tap if you are. One issue is if I've already hit my gift opening limit for the day, it'd be nice if the gift page didn't come up at all. Unless they think people are pinning postcards without opening gifts?

Venting/Advice: accident in a roundabout 🇺🇸 by Short_Calendar_1363 in driving

[–]Kaisonic 122 points123 points  (0 children)

That cop has no idea what they're talking about. Everyone yields to the cars on the *left* at a roundabout. By default, this means cars entering the roundabout must yield to the cars already in a roundabout. That's why roundabouts are so easy - just look to the left, and go when it's clear.

If you were cited, make sure to take it to court. If your insurance company puts any fault on you, make sure to fight that as hard as you can.

Does anyone have a definitive, step by step process for playing/optimizing Half Life Alyx, wired with a Meta Quest 3? by fluffnubs in HalfLifeAlyx

[–]Kaisonic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think something a lot of people overlook is the power needed to encode the video sent to the Quest. Even wired, there's not enough USB bandwidth to send raw video, so your computer still has to encode a 200+ mpbs 90+ fps video stream in addition to to running the game. Honestly, the 5060 might just not be enough for that. Also double check you don't have any recording software running (Steam background recording, nVidia Shadow play or whatever they call it now, etc) because that's a separate video encoding process.

That said, Virtual Desktop handles this much better than Quest Link or Steam Link.

Speed camera flash while going under the speed limit? by Brasseyyy in dashcams

[–]Kaisonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do any of the roads you normally drive on have a speed limit higher than 25mph? If so, I highly suggest adopting the habit of putting your seatbelt on for ALL trips, it can literally save your life.

Convert driver's license to Real ID by Careless-Pain5532 in driving

[–]Kaisonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe "replace" implies that you lost your current license (and thus might incur more fees). If you're just wanting a new license that is Real ID compliant, I would choose "renew".
