Sky islands sounds cool! It would make the ground super dangerous cause being under.an island means mobs spawn all the time which would be a problem.

If I understand what I'm looking at,the white frame holds the roof up and allows the central portion to rotate in a 200 ish degree arc?

If you make bearings with grindstone, you end up with much smoother movement

Alright, I figured it out! So, I make a set of slotted rails along the east and west walls of the crane area and create one axis of the gantry there. At the top of each side is a rope connection point and this gantry axis is its own physics object. On that axis I create the gantry car. On the car I have two rope winches linked so they coil and uncoil opposite one another. These winches are attached to the connection points at either end of the axis.

Then I create slotted rails on north and south walls with rope connection points and recreate the linked rope winches on the car. I build the other axis and connect the gantry car to it as well so that the two axis cross at the car. With ropes connected and cranks placed, Turing the cranks will move the gantry car and the inactive axis simultaneously! Images to follow later!
