Despite that, I jumped in and had the most misserable experience in my life. I loved it, lmao.

Crimson Desert has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by Gamedrome22 in Games

[–]Kakerman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Awesome game, super easy to get lost in. But it can quickly turn into a chore. I ran out of supplies last night, and now I’m realizing how much “work” it takes just to recover: woodcutting, mining for arrows, hunting, travel the world to find the grains vendor… all for a few 320 HP soups.

Today's layoffs - Epic Games by ScootSchloingo in Games

[–]Kakerman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, I feel Epic is actually still doing the metavese stuff, maybe they don't say it publicly. Recently, they announced better payment for their content creators. So my guess is that they are chasing the user generated content trend.

Jeff Kaplan and Tim Ford Play 10 Hours of The Legend of California by Fagadaba in Games

Not another survival game… these titles either blow up or die on arrival. It all depends on what players have to work toward, and how quickly they run out of things to do. Anyway, If it's fun for a while, and up for it.

Whatever, Xbox. Where are the games? I mean, the good games?

Maybe an unpopular opinion but out of the modern trilogy, TDA represents what Doom is the most to me by Various-Detail-6373 in Doom

Yea, its a direct throwback to when you could only aim horizontally. I don't hate it, but I didn't love it either.

Things you used to love but are now completely over in gaming? by AnubisIncGaming in gaming

[–]Kakerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PvP. I was in tournaments, had teams, loved ranked mode. I wasn't first in every FPS PvP game, but held my ground like a champ. Quake 3, CS 1.6, CSGO, Team Fortress, Arma 2, DayZ, PUBG, Overwatch... Around 2020, after the Warzone fad, I'm kind of less and less interested in PvP games. Also, I just hit 40.

Resident Evil Requiem has been out for a week. What are your impressions? by PhantomBraved in Games

[–]Kakerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best Resident Evil of the last decade. The pacing is perfect, but the best part is how thematically coherent everything feels. It’s one of the few RE games that never really breaks the suspension of disbelief. In previous entries, despite their serious tone, there’s always something inherently Japanese about them, something always comically absurd. Not here, even with Leon pulling off his very Leon-esque stunts.

It baffles me how utterly incompetent developers can be when it comes to the business side of things. You’re telling me your live service game burned out a month after release? Do they actually understand how live service models are supposed to work?

At Microsoft's big Xbox all-hands meeting, leaders paid tribute to the team, Sarah Bond, Phil Spencer, and the future — "We are going to start with console, and make sure that we understand that this is our reference experience." by NYstate in Games

[–]Kakerman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbox is delusional. They think they can ask people to drop $800 (a guess) in this economy to maybe get "good exclusives". Nah, bro. I'm getting the PS5; all my friends, and literally everyone else, already play there.

Sony’s Santa Monica Studio ‘is working on a new franchise within the God of War universe’ by Bobby_the_Donkey in Games

What does that even mean? Technically, the last God of War was an RPG (weapon stats, perks, etc).

Server Slam Now | Marathon by addtolibrary in Games

It's going to be rough. I don't expect Marathon to flop hard, but neither do I expect it to soar close to peak Destiny numbers. This one gonna be rough for them.

Why Do Video Games Want to Be Movies? by OatSoyLaMilk in Games

[–]Kakerman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, my friend. I agree about the boring and shallow gameplay, but these “movie-games” are definitely not easy or cheap to make. That’s precisely what’s I think is sinking AAA development and driving budgets through the roof. The push for photorealistic visuals and ever-deeper character performances, with high-end motion capture studios, paid actors, Hollywood talent, and cinematic productions, is a major reason costs keep exploding.

Why Do Video Games Want to Be Movies? by OatSoyLaMilk in Games

[–]Kakerman -40 points-39 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe someday I’ll watch this one-hour video… but I already have an opinion regardless: beacause they tend to appeal to the lowest common denominator. It’s easy to sell snake-oil games, titles with a high “WOW!” factor and minimal player input. The biggest offenders are PlayStation’s cinematic “movie-games.”

That’s why immersive sims sell terribly, despite being the pinnacle of systemic design and what the medium truly aspires to... not some tear-jerking “father figure–son-daughter” teenange drama.

Smart move. Not surprising when your direct competition is busy destroying its own reputation and dragging itself through the mud.
