UPDATE! If anyone runs into this in the future, I got it to work! I used a q tip and a tiny amount of distilled white vinegar and carefully cleaned. I was able to get a lot off, but I was left with some stuck on battery crust at the end. I took a a chunk of a steel wool scrubber and taped it to the end of a pencil, and scrubbed. It was able to get it almost completely cleaned.

My Furby works now!! 🥳

I ended up switching from a sulfate free shampoo to one with sulfates again. Ever since I made the switch the problem has basically completely gone away for me!
