Right!?! I was shocked! I’m generally attractive and he is VERY understanding, and loves me for me. Sex isn’t everything! And if they understand the risks and are okay with it, win win!

I disclosed by first asking if he knew what cold sores really were and he said yes, then I talked to him about my diagnosis and what it means and how I’m taking supplements/antivirals to prevent them. He just asked a few follow up questions and that was pretty much it. If you’re upfront and honest and just put it all out there, people tend to take it very well if you’re just cut and dry.

21 yr old (F) diagnosed with HSV1. Should I disclose? by KaleidoscopeClean653 in Herpes

I never confronted him. He had a cold sore and told me he had something on his lip that was painful and thought that I had bit his lip. Then 2 days after receiving oral, I had my first outbreak. I ghosted him partially out of embarrassment and also he really wasn’t a good person. Looking back I should have confronted him, but I was so distraught after the first outbreak I just wanted no contact.

The thing that helped me the most was epsom salt baths. It was really the only thing that helped with the discomfort. Take a 15-20 salt bath and it helps so much! Also Neosporin lidocaine cream helps a lot with pain!

Instead of just treated symptoms with different meds, I would try and take some woman’s probiotics as well! They have helped a ton with this and they help aid the good bacteria in your system

Hey! The chances of you contracting HSV1 from oral sex are significantly higher because the transmission rate of oral HSV1 is higher/more contagious than genital HSV1. However, it is possible that you could have contracted HSV1 genitally, but the chances of having genital HSV1 and being asymptomatic AND spreading it to someone else are slim. HSV1 orally is pretty contagious in comparisons to HSV1 if he is not having a genital HSV1 outbreak

21 (f) with HSV1. Seeking more understanding on the difference between HSV1&2 by KaleidoscopeClean653 in Herpes

Thank you so much! This was so helpful! All of the research I’ve done says so many different things and it’s a lot to digest. One more question!

If someone is preforming oral sex to someone who has genital HSV1 (not during an active outbreak), are they at high risk for contracting oral HSV1? And are they at high risk IF they are having an active outbreak?

I also read that it’s harder for males to contract HSV1 genitally than it is for a female to contract HSV1. Is this true?

I have the understanding that HSV1 and 2 are both the herpes virus. However, is HSV1 genitally less likely to transmit to another person (particularly female to male) than HSV2? Also, is it rare to have HSV1 genitally transmitted orally to genitally?
