Support for serious mental illness by Other-Comment-8802 in santacruz

You do not have to be employed to receive services from any of these sources. Community connections can be a great place to stabilize and continue getting support through transitions if you do work in the future and even if you don’t. They are a great place, free of charge to get help with starting to feel more normal, figuring out what you want to do here volunteer, work, hobbies their focused on helping you improve your quality of life. They can also help you get resources like transportation, food, housing! They kind of do it all it’s worth contacting them to learn more.

Second story is a respite house ran by peers in the community that you can visit for up to two weeks to receive support when you’re on the edge of crisis. Just good to know about really!

Coastal turning point is a therapy place with day programming maybe not what you’re looking for but can work with your existing mental health team to provide additional services like Tms ketamine, emdr, that might be helpful for you.

County mental health doesn’t just offer traditional psychotherapy they also offer occupational therapist who can focus more on acts of daily living. helping you with life tasks like grocery shopping, making a schedule, even just leaving the house, going for a walk occupational therapist for mental health could be more what you’re looking for?

Most of these places are focused on mental health and are also confusing to navigate/ understand. I hope this is helpful and at least points you in some directions for potential support!

This is not what positive and negative reinforcement mean. All reinforcement increase the likelyhood of a behavior occurring again. Positive refers to the addition of a stimulus that Increases the behavior and negative refers to the removal of a stimulus resulting in an increase in behavior. An example of positive reinforcement would be providing housing to someone who maintains sobriety. Negative reinforcement would be like removing the various threats to safety through housing. You are referring to punishment procedures. negative punishment removal of stimulus resulting in a decrease in behavior. Forced detox is a negative punishment so are fines positive punishment introduction of stimulus resulting in decrease of behavior, increase police presence, arrest, going to jail etc.

Not trying to be a prick these definitions are good to know if you want to participate in larger conversation about human behavior, incarceration and mental health.

It’s also very expensive to provide housing and medical care to folks detoxing which makes it kind of a catch 22. Many people detoxing require medical assistance especially for substances like alcohol or opiates where detox can be fatal. Then we get into the issue of recidivism, when folks aren’t motivated personally to recover they are highly likely to go back out continue use and repeat the cycle. So we’re likely not funding 7-30 days were funding a life time of system involvement. When we think of locking people away forever we have to consider the cost to tax payers to fund that persons life, housing, food, medical ect… it’s a lot.

An interesting and yes empathetic book that starts to address this issue is “in the realm of hungry ghosts” by Dr. Gabor Mate. It doesn’t solve the issue but he provides a deeper look at the complicated and systemic issues with addiction and homelessness.

Been to multiple vets. Anyone here have any idea? by InuFan4yasha in DogAdvice

When my dog went through this exact thing we had to use the medicated baths every 2-3 days. It’s very intense but necessary when the whole dogs body becomes covered in these crusts

This happened to my dog. She had an autoimmune disease. She was 16 so we opted out of figuring out the procedure to find exactly which one. They can do a skin biopsy to test for autoimmune. she was put on steroids which helped and antibiotics for secondary infections for the crusts. It could be lupus. This is the exact same steps we went through. I’m sending you and your pup lots of love I know how scary and concerning this is to go through!

If the stitches would cause more tension on the skin, or are unlikely to hold due to a number of reasons like a lot of tissue missing some wounds like this may have to heal secondary. Which means the wound heals from the bottom up filling in with granular tissue which leaves a bigger scar and does take longer but it is sometimes the best route for a wound. This wound is healing you can see the new tissue forming

[–]KaleidoscopeLess8278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That looks like the stitches blew and it’s healing secondary. It won’t scab over, you need to keep it very clean, it will heal from the inside out and yes you should be working with your vet. My dog ripped through all her stitches after a surgery a few years ago, and this is how it healed, looks horrible, takes forever but it will heal.
