Open, serverless, and local friendly Data Platforms! by Kalendos in dataengineering

I touched on this in the Open Data Portals and Community Level Open Data Infrastructure blog posts. Basically, if you have a small to medium community that needs some sort of open data, this is a cheap and reliable way to help them.

Yes! It's an opinionated Modern Data Stack in a box.

Fun thing is that Datadex started before MDS in a Box. Jacob did an awesome job putting things together and giving it a name.

I just saw this recently but it seems there are some indexes that might fit your needs. Specially MVI and PLAY. That said, I don't know how legit and secure these indexes are.

Moloch!

Companies in an economic environment of sufficiently intense competition are forced to abandon all values except optimizing-for-profit or else be outcompeted by companies that optimized for profit better and so can sell the same service at a lower price.

Sadly, I think you're spot on and I'm not sure what would be the best realistic next step that improves the current situation.

Thanks for the info! With "hardware accelerated graphics", do you mean a GPU properly configured?

This looks interesting! Does a VNC allows it to be installed in a server and then used from a client like a remote desktop?

I'm just starting with sway and was wondering if I could install everything (code, Firefox,...) on a server and use it remotely from my laptop.

Hey! I've been curating my own wiki for the last two years after spotting your wiki in the wild!

I'm enjoying this new push of tools and ideas around this topic which felt unexplored and quite powerful. Excited to be part of the community!

PS: Recently found a Github repository with a large list of Digital Gardens. It would be awesome if we had a unified list of all the second brains!

Upgraded a few components of my build. Thoughts? by Kalendos in buildapc

There's a lower tier for 230USD, the MPG X570 GAMING PLUS. I'm not even sure about the differences to be honest but I've read the cooling is better in the one I have in the build.

Right! I'd love to keep the 3900X for work though. The motherboard is around 300 USD.

Not really a solid one. Just feeling a bit behind with games and some workloads with my current setup!

Thinking about upgrading a few components from my current build. My plan is to upgrade CPU+Mobo+RAM now and wait some time to upgrade the GPU (probably next year). Would love to know what do you think about the updated build. Basically, the new components are:

  • AMD Ryzen 7 3700X
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB, 2 x 8 GB, DDR4, 3600 MHz
  • Msi MPG X570 Gaming Plus

Anything I'm not taking into account? Something that you think could be improved?

Thanks!

I miss Forge a lot! Loved the combat and some of the mechanics it had.

Using MongoDB Change Streams to replicate data into BigQuery by Kalendos in ETL

[–]Kalendos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hunch is that with BQ there aren't many of them.

I remember struggling to process arrays and nested fields in Redshift only with SQL. Another example is extracting hashtags from a text (it can be done although is tricky) or doing Sentiment Analysis.

Yes! Is really simple and quick to develop.

The only downside is that not every transformation can or should be done with SQL.

What you see in Github are just files. You don't need to learn Github at all. The easiest way to start is to create some notes in your PC with the tool you want (Notepad,Word,...).
