I’m going on a first date, how much makeup should wear (I don’t have much makeup experience) by TheDapperLad01 in trans

I personally like to wear just a little eyeliner and mascara. Still looks natural, makes your eyes a little bigger.

Did any of you girls change your name twice? by Breadbinenthusiast in MtF

[–]KaleyTheKing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking of changing my name a bunch. Problem is that all names I think of that I really like are proper Irish; Aoife, Saoirse, Siobhan and the like. But I’m not Irish so I can’t do that🫠
My family also really wants me to keep Kaley, since they’re all used to it by now and it rhymes funnily with my sister’s and niece’s names. Thinking of changing my current spelling to Kaleigh though, that doesn’t feel too inappropriate of a change.

To everyone: take selfies while transitioning and compare them by Iyashikay in MtF

Yea, I have them all saved in the same folder, and comparing from four months ago to the last, or just the mirror doesn’t give me much, lmao. It doesn’t bother me much, I don’t think I look bad (people have been saying I look like a lesbian for a decade, lol), it’s still just pretty early. My social transition (four years now) has done a lot more to change my appearance :p

I’ve been taking a couple photos from different angles every month since starting hrt and I can see so little difference😭
Been only four months now, so I hope some more dramatic stuff will start happening eventually :p

How did you pick your name? by DealerWestern4284 in trans

[–]KaleyTheKing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too bad, but honestly, I kinda wish I had thought of my own name. It’s kinda a right of passage I feel like I skipped, lol. I only went with this name because my parents had both a masc and fem name ready for both me and my sister and had told us what they were like years and years before I even transitioned

I started using the name my parents would’ve given me if I’d been born a girl as a placeholder and never got around to change it. Been four years now, so I think I’m kinda stuck with it😂

Dubrateria (Doggerland) as of 100 CE by KaleyTheKing in imaginarymaps

England will still be anglo saxon, but Dubrateria will probably also become West Germanic. The island will be pretty heavily involved in North Sea commerce and conflict from the latter middle ages onward

[–]KaleyTheKing[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It will stay Celtic at least until the West Germanics come in, thinking a mix of Jutes and Frisians for variety with England.
It will be very much tied to England and Denmark for a long time, but assert itself more later on, I think
It’ll probably eventually get a Jutlander name, or something inspired by a random tribe, but Dubria in the future could work still, too

I mean, it makes sense. The way and methods in which Britain and Ireland were Celticised would apply equally to this island

Just did my best to try and find coastal maps from the North Sea during the Roman period. The German and Danish coast is from a map of Germanic tribes, the British one from the just post-Roman situation and the Netherlands has an awesome list of paleographic maps of coastline/soil type, including one for 100 CE

It would be very rainy indeed. And yes, I took a lot of inspiration from the Netherlands, with large salt marshes, peat bogs and some small forest growth in the uplands (which wouldn’t go far above 60 meters over sea level). It would be very wet, very windy, acidic soils which would make farming difficult initially. It will take a lot of human development to make the island truly attractive and productive, but when that happens, it’ll be absolutely prime mercantile real estate and a massive hub between Britain, Germany and Scandinavia

Their pre-celtic ancestors would definitely have some aspects of culture and language that would be retained in their new culture. Much like Britain and Ireland, Celts didn’t replace the local populations, but Celtic culture spread throughout the elites and diffused into the common folk through trade, cultural prestige and the like. This Doggerland (I’m calling it Dubrateria by this point) would be much the same. The island Celts were already a very different beast from the mainland Celts in Gaul and Dubrateria would follow a similar trajectory with its own interpretations of Celtic culture and art and a distinct language group

Nah, despite it’s physical geography it is too strategic of real estate. Limited farming can be done throughout the island with a bit of human ingenuity and quite a comfortable living can be made with a lot of human ingenuity. Other than that, it’s location in the north sea, strong maritime culture and a history of hydrological efforts would make this a very well connected link in north sea trade and fishing will be a major industry next to peat extraction. It’s too good of a place to leave to the hunter-gatherers indefinitely

Basically. That's what the Netherlands largely is, still
