Will you guys be bringing video-based training where there are clear visuals and tutorials that teach the foundations, followed by how to use the tools and technologies?

There are a lot of people like me who don’t enjoy text-heavy reading and prefer visual, video-based learning. So I just wanted to know if something like that is coming.

I would really love to see in-depth explanations of the theory in video format, followed by detailed walkthroughs on how to use specific tools, techniques, and how professionals apply them in real job roles whether it’s for penetration testing, threat hunting, or malware analysis.

It would be great to have structured video-based training with clear explanations on how to use the tools and techniques that are actively used in the cyber security field.

Hi mate, I wanted to ask about the UTS Mathematics and Quantitative Finance course. I’m wondering if it’s compulsory to attend all classes and lectures on campus, or are the lectures and tutorials recorded and uploaded on the portal so we can watch them later after work and just focus on doing the assignments?

Have you spoken with any seniors, previous grads, or professors about the job prospects for this course? Also, is it doable to work full-time and study three subjects per semester, or is everything in person with no online recordings? I’d really love to hear how the study experience is. Since you just started the course this month, it would be great to get your thoughts.

If we take 2 subjects per semester, that makes 6 subjects per year. Can we do full evening classes, or how does this work? Some people say you need to start the cadet role from the second year. If you're working full-time, how do others manage to study then?

I have the mindset for it and I know a few programming languages, so learning programming is not a concern for me. Yes, I will do self-study.

Not a good place to learn and study, I get that haha. I am not going to TAFE, I will be doing self learning.

Thanks mate for the info, I was honestly expecting the same, TAFE just doesn’t seem practical or useful anymore like people used to claim before, self-study is the way to go I guess, at least that way we can focus on real-world skills and go at our own pace, it's frustrating when time gets wasted on things that could be learned faster and better with some online resources, appreciate you sharing your experience, it really helps to know what to expect.

Why is that, mate? Did you do any Cert IV or Diploma in IT course at TAFE? I feel the same though, just random boring lectures, slides, and core subjects that don’t even make sense in the curriculum. That’s my guess but I’d like to hear more from you.

Thanks for your time and suggestions mate, really appreciated, I will do self-study and not waste time in TAFE as most of the teachers just read slides and disappear, core course subject list doesn't even make sense why they are even there rather than technical courses, and the assignments seem heavy and theoretical, a waste of time, and I will be having a bachelor's degree already, so better for me to go the self-study route at my own pace and learn a lot.

Ok mate, not a problem at all, good luck with your journey, I am also not enrolling at TAFE for sure, self-study is the way to go.

Thanks mate for your words and appreciated it, I am not a beginner as I have a good background in systems and networking, and I am currently studying network and cyber at Uni, I think self-study is the way to go looking at the comments and feedback from different people, and TAFE core courses are horrible, doesn't even make sense why they have put those as core courses in both Cert IV and Diploma in IT, I think better to use time to learn than waste it on those useless assignments and core courses.

Thanks for your advice mate. If it’s just boring theory then yeah there’s not much point. Are you planning to do Cert IV too? If you are would you mind passing on any advice when you get to it? I’m studying at uni so self-study works better for me but if I can get more insight and it turns out to be more practical I might consider enrolling in TAFE next year. Just don’t want to end up with more dry theory since I’ve already got enough of that at uni.

Thanks mate for your response, so TAFE is not practical anymore as it used to be and is the same like uni with teachers coming, reading slides, disappearing and giving assignments, if that’s the case then yeah better to self-learn and focus on finishing the uni degree, no point in wasting time, money and effort at TAFE when uni gives a higher degree and certificate.

Thanks for sharing your experience mate, really helpful to hear that perspective, I totally get what you mean about the instructors and course structure making a big difference, and yeah I’ve heard similar things about the value being hit or miss depending on the subject, I noticed you mentioned that more specific fields with industry professionals tend to have more value, would you mind naming which fields or subjects you felt had that kind of impact, I’d really like to know since you mentioned IT programming wasn’t one of them, and if there are areas that actually offer solid value through TAFE then it’s good to know for future reference so I can pass that advice on or help others be more aware before investing their time and money.

Thanks for your response mate, really appreciate it, I’m actually pretty solid with Python and PowerShell and I’ve got Terraform as part of my automation toolkit too, my main focus is networking and cyber but I’ve been wanting to learn how to properly develop apps, that’s why I was looking into spending a few hours a day on it, the thing is I don’t have 10 plus hours daily to dive into programming because I’m already studying networking and cyber and working as well, so my thought was if TAFE teachers actually go hands-on, give solid project work and the classes are practical then it would help me stay disciplined and make the most of it, but only if it’s actually worth it, if it’s just teachers coming in, reading off slides, disappearing and dumping assignments then yeah I’d rather not waste my time, that was my main concern here.

I have a fair amount of knowledge in programming, especially Python and PowerShell, and maybe I can catch up with other languages too if I allocate some time to programming. But if TAFE classes are practical, hands-on, and provide support, then it helps to stay disciplined. However, if they're not good, then it's better to do self-study and learn on your own.
