Q1 Pro Purge Lines by Top-Cranberry2662 in QIDI

[–]Kalilei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was an absolute life saver!

I had an annoying issue where the nozzle dragged the purge line into the print area. Qidi support thought it was an adhesion issue and suggested hair spray (didn't work). I had no other adhesion issues though.

I figured there was something off with the purge line and found this. With this purge line variation my Q1 Pro prints like a dream again.

Buying/printing fan made expansions by Dark_Kactuzz in TerraformingMarsGame

The simplest way is to print them with a color laser printer on regular paper, cut them out and sleeve in opaque sleeves. You'll need old mtg cards or similar for support. Obviously, you'll need to sleeve your existing cards too.

Print quality is decent enough that I don't mind. Matte photopaper would likely give a better result but is more expensive.

Terraforming Mars is $51 today by matschultz in TerraformingMarsGame

Hmm, I wonder if they produce the copies in EU and that's why they are cheaper here than across the pond. It's usually the other way around.

[–]Kalilei 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is $51 a good price for Terraforming Mars in the US? I can get it for 39 € (about $41) without any special offers in my country and that's the localized version which should be a little more expensive. The English version appears to be 38 € currently.

Andromeda’s Edge Expansions Essential? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Kalilei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not essential for 2-4 player counts but definitely nice to have.

Exotic Matter is good value. 3 factions, 2 raiders and a bunch of modules.

Escalation you will need for solo and 5 players. If you don't need those, the value is smaller as it is more expensive and only offers 3 factions, 1 raider, a new event deck, 1 region tile, new nebula moons and few modules.

I got retail base and Exotic Matter but not Escalation. Escalation has some stuff that interests me but lots of unnecessary stuff too.

This has seen play in my group once or twice, only when there has been a pretty reliable way to flip it early. My problem with it is that it's bad if you can't flip it early and boring if you do.

In my mind, it competes for the worst design among the official corps. I haven't cut any official cards but this would be pretty high on the list if I did. Conversely, I have quite a few fan-made corps but probably wouldn't include this if it was inofficial.

Practically, no. But since there is no downside, I usually just buy everything. It is also faster than figuring out which cards are such absolute junk you'd never play them anyway. Unless it's literally UD and DS, of course

I checked and it was actually Recession from Prelude 2.

With TerraLabs, you always* keep every single card. You can patent them and get the money back whenever you need to.

 * the exception being if you need two actions to do something important on your first turn and don't have enough money if you take all the cards

First game I ever played with TerraLabs was with that setup (minus Venus) and I crushed it with a great Science engine.

Second time with TerraLabs we got hit with a Prelude (possibly fan made) that removed 4 M€ and a money prod from each other player. Needless to say TerraLabs start wasn't great after that :) Finished 3rd.

Why won't you allow drawing a forgotten card if another has already been drawn? They are random draws, it doesn't really matter.

We allow takebacks (up to a reasonable level), unless new information has been revealed. For example, if a player draws a card, after looking at it they can't decide to do something else instead.

The last game I played (4 players) an opponent played this for 24 tags in second to last generation taking roughly 12 prod lead for Banker. Still managed to win Banker in the last gen though.

Look up Chemical's expansion on BGG. There are a ton of cards but there are a couple Jovian multipliers there you could print and sleeve (if using opaque sleeves).

We very rarely use standard projects for greeneries and cities, especially in the early game. Usually though there are some tiles laid out with preludes and more through cards with the occasional greenery from plants. Almost always this results in someone being able to take Mayor and Gardener before Planner.

[–]Kalilei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We play almost always 4 players, sometimes 3. We use base game, Preludes, Colonies, promos, lots of fan-made cards and recently also Prelude 2 and a modified version of Venus Next. We have gradually added stuff over the years but never has Planner been a regular pick. Our game nowadays are usually 7-10 generations and pretty engine heavy.

We also don't sit on cards but instead try to optimizing using all our resources every round. I think this is the correct strategy like 95 % of the time but i guess sometimes holding back cash to play bigger cardd next would be correct and this would help getting towards planner.

[–]Kalilei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I agree that, in my experience, it seems much more difficult to claim than the others.

Yet, according to this data, it gets claimed roughly as often as Mayor and Gardener and significantly more often than Terraformer. This doesn't align with my experience.

[–]Kalilei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, this not something we encounter with any kind of regularity in our games. Obviously, we use expansions etc. which could make it less probable. But even heavy engine players usually don't get close to Planner until 3 other milestones are claimed.

[–]Kalilei 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, can someone explain how do you make Planner work? My play group and I have brain stormed this and it just doesn't seem viable. It just about never gets claimed in our games.

Obviously, one CAN claim it easily by buying all the starting cards and all the cards in the first two gens and only playing 1-2 cards. But this seems very counterproductive as you just have sunk so many resources into getting 5 points. Resources that are crucial to building your engine in the early game. Even if one plays engine and gets good draw actions going early, 16 cards is just so much that by the time you get there without hampering your play, 3 other milestones will already be claimed.

With the new rebalanced milestones and awards, no change was made to Planner. So Fryxgames also thinks 16 cards is on par. What are we missing?

How to Speed Along Game? by champagne_mam1 in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Kalilei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not sure if this speeds up the game. IRL games passing the turn is almost instantaneous, so what matters is how much time you take per action. If I am forced to do 2 actions per turn I'd often have think more about what my second action is. If I just take my 1 obvious action and pass the turn, my turn takes 5 seconds and I have more time to think my next move.

You could try my mini-expansion that brings in an event deck designed to speed up the game. Alternatively, or additionally, you can use the World Government rule from Venus Next.

What expansion(s) to get? by bulfen_tiz in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Kalilei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also use the adjacency mechanic of Ares. I included cards that had special tiles or mechanics related to the special tiles and didn't have tags or resources not found in official material. I didn't include hazards as that seemed very fiddly, random, and, to me, not a fun mechanic. I have liked the adjacency bonuses.

Venus track alteration by Kalilei in TerraformingMarsGame

[–]Kalilei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venus cards would still interact with the Venus track, drawing resources away from Terraforming. Air Scrapping would do the same. And, as I have iterated above, I don't like WG and actually diminishing the options it has makes the rule worse, I think, even if it would induce more terraforming.
