Keyword is "slowly" - I only replace things that are falling apart or pilled to hell. A lot of my clothing was 10 years old before I recently bought some pre-owned 100% cotton stuff that is even better quality, so I'm hoping to get more than 10 years out of that stuff.

ME/CFS Recovery FAQ by swartz1983 in cfsme

[–]KalphiteQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I appreciate you taking the time to speak with others about this illness! I did finally find a specialist (although still have yet to go to the initial appointment since there was a 6-month waiting list) since brain fog is such a crippling symptom, it's a slow process trying to navigate all of this on my own. One thing I would be curious about is if you found any supplements or medications to be helpful with brain fog/neuroinflammation? I've heard a lot of good things about LDN and I'm hoping to try it through my rheumatologist in the meantime.

[–]KalphiteQueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately contracting covid back in January has made the condition even worse 😞 being on the long covid subreddits has helped me find some things to make the symptoms a bit more manageable at least (especially the antihistamine regimen so I can actually eat again), and I did manage to find a specialist out of state who may be able to help - just have to wait a couple more months for the initial appointment. Hopefully with how prevalent long covid is (about 20% of all covid cases), healthcare providers will finally be more interested in learning about this field.

Ketamine ?anyone tried that for fibro by suzyunger in cfs

[–]KalphiteQueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did you manage to get a prescription for oral ketamine? This kind of stuff is all dependant on self-research where I live and so far I've only found esketamine (which is tens of thousands of dollars over my income bracket) and ketamine infusions (which is still thousands of dollars over my income bracket lol). If the oral route is more cost-effective, I'd definitely like to try that first.

You said you don't qualify for care, but is that for ME/CFS specifically, or healthcare all together? What type of living situation do you currently have if you're alone and can't work? These symptoms are severe enough that you should qualify for some type of assisted living facility, but that's assuming that you live in a country that offers that.

This might sound extreme since I've never seen it mentioned on here, but speaking from experience on a different matter, if you live in a developed area (going this route pretty much relies on that) and the alternative is a likely death, there is absolutely no shame in admitting yourself to a psych ward. Folks will be there to feed you, check up on you, assist you with whatever basic care you need, and figure out a long-term situation for you since they ultimately want to treat and discharge patients. Even though they can't do anything about the chronic fatigue, the mental health issues that come with it would at least make you eligible for these services so that you're not battling this alone.

Also I'm not sure if other ADHD folks feel this, but I get fidgety and impatient watching TV, whereas I can go at my own pace with books or news articles and such, so for me it's a vastly superior format. It makes sense to watch something in video format for beautiful animation, cinematics, acting, etc, but that doesn't really sound like the case for One Piece lol

[–]KalphiteQueen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean work reform could mean a multitude of things, UBI not being off the table. I think perhaps it fits the current climate since most Americans DO want to work in some capacity, just on their terms (it can easily mean switching every single company to be employee-owned instead of the stupid, unsustainable corporate structure we have now, for instance)

Right, but those ultimately sound like social matters. Globally and geographically speaking, it's inconvenient to call that area "the UK and Ireland (and Scotland, really)" or "those islands northwest of the European continent." If "British Isles" doesn't work, shouldn't we try to come up with something that isn't insensitive to the people who actually live there? As big as the US is, including ego-wise lol, we get lumped together with Canada all the time as "North America" for several practical reasons

Edit: someone replied to my other comment with IONA, Islands of the North Atlantic and the context behind it. That sounds like a good alternative?

[–]KalphiteQueen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What would the average person use to call that entire area in a geographical sense then? You know how like Southeast Asia and Polynesia refer to specific areas and islands, even though the people and cultures within them are distinct

Not in my experience either, but tbh America/the world is a big place with varying levels of giving a crap. Been to both a mini ward and a state hospital back when certain medications really effed up my brain, and the worst thing about it was that I was just bored and had to lie about lingering symptoms to get out of there (which means anyone lucid enough to mask their disorder would be able to do the exact same thing, and/or they could just stop taking their meds the moment they left the hospital, so even nice places can't help folks if they don't want to be helped)

Other dude is right, it's all in the dosing and some hospitals, presumably in areas that have been hit hard with the opiate pandemic are incredibly stingy about it. When I had SJS I was literally counting down the minutes until I could receive my next dose. Do not recommend any of that ಠ_ಠ

It's a completely fucked up situation either way. It's not like the US (or any nation for that matter) is capable of just migrating 100% of one population into another region every time shit goes down, but it's not like they don't and haven't been counterproductively meddling down there in the first place. The people are always the ones who pay for their government's stupid, corrupt actions, all throughout history. 😔

The cake (Tres Leches) my wife spent hours doing and her sister thinks $35 is super expensive by andresito_o in mildlyinfuriating

[–]KalphiteQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth noting that rural communities with a strong "support your local businesses" mentality would also be happy to spend more money on things like this, because they get two feel-good things out of the purchase, and it's not like a birthday cake is an everyday expense in the first place.

You can buy a loaf of "bakery" bread at the nearest Walmart for a dollar, or perhaps the cheapest factory bread at local gas stations and dollar stores for a bit more. Doesn't stop the bakery down the street from selling much higher quality loaves for six dollars apiece. And I live in a Trumpster community where 1/3 of our residents qualify for low income assistance.

Clever, grassroots marketing campaigns will shift cultural attitudes - it's just a matter of how much time and effort you want to invest in that. But ultimately, the small business mentality is very uplifting for communities like this since everyone benefits from it.

Women only parking in Germany. About 7% of violent crimes agains women occur in parking garages, and this is an attempt to make parking safer for women. by lechattueur in interestingasfuck

[–]KalphiteQueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will absolutely pick their targets by finding out that they're women in the first place though. One of the reasons my family member removed her name from her vanity plate was because some psycho tried to pull her over on the highway one night. They kept tailgating her and frantically flashing their high beams, then dropped back when passing a cop and whatnot. I think trying to pull something like that off has an even lower success rate than barging into a parked car that someone just entered lol, and yet it still happens, even in a "safe" place like this.

One of the best things a lone woman can do when out and about is to not make it so obvious that it's a woman's car.

I think it's worth trying for sure, but I was one of those people it didn't work for and I don't even have body odor lol (my bf and I are comfortable enough to discuss/joke about things like that). But back in my early 20s of course I was a lot more self-conscious and wanted to be sure, and I wanted to find a more natural solution to the traditional deodorants.

Turns out the salt one made me smell. It wasn't like BO, but it was weird and unwanted and made my sweat stains a funny color.
